we just did a roadtrip:
AZ -> Great Falls, Montana -> AZ : 2200 miles in 3 days
icon_eek.gif
.... we made about 9.5 miles per gallon @ 65 mph with flatbed trailer.

need to add that the cab>to>sleeper and the sleeper>to>box have "walk thru" openings
icon_wink.gif

and there is a fold up shade roof over the rear door and a slide out landing platform with steps that store in the rear compartment over the hitch

.spooner: ......looks really cool with that tile floor and the wood planking-kinda different-I'm very impressed so far.....send more pix along as you have a chance.....was this truck origionally an hot shot/just in time delivery or overnight delivery setup?...maybe a O/O set up?.....geofkaye

kblackav8or-
If you feel you must go retro on the truck, avoid the pre-Daimler Freightliners; their assembly quality is dismal, in that you will never know for sure if either door is fully closed, as they will rattle as if they aren't. Even if they are! It can't be adjusted out either. You may not like the present owners, but they ARE screwing them together a LOT better than before. Just a word from one who knows......

....a lot of these trucks are on the market now for around 30k and are within 200,000 mile range with a 8.3 cummns/C-12 CAT...Could be the start of a new line of conversions kinda like a Midsize unite instead of the top of the like coach......Idea here for a DIY who wants to get it together for just a few bucks more and a littlesweat....geofkaye

Why not? Except for no towing capacity to speak of, mine does fine @ 16,000lb with a Ford F450 cab, 460EFI gasser with a 5sp!

MDT diesel would do great, so long as the trailer is kept down in the 6,000 - 8,000lb range versus the multi-car monster stackers the full Class8s can cope with.

I don't know who told you that. The 4900 International can tow 20 tons. The red one above is limited by the standard two inch receiver. Never got a bigger hitch because we have build it in California and with a (tag)trailer over 10000lbs you need to have class A non commercial .

Wait: I'm not saying they can't tow! I'm saying that once you build one into an entire 35ft+ motorhome, THEN you don't have as much leftover towing capacity as if you'd started with a class8

.

In my case, I've got about a 28ft motorhome body (not including cabover bed) on a Ford F450 Super Duty...and I'm balls to the wall on weight
icon_smile.gif
. I could tow a 10ft rowboat maybe...a VW bug would be...possible, but not really smart

.

But I *can* carry my Buell in my 10ft garage so I'm happy

Hey Geof, NO midsize comes with a C-12 Cat; C-7(or 3126) yes, but no C-12. It's too heavy for a midsize.
