being damn careful with a side mounted gas grill

I think the old adage is,"If you want to play with the big boys, you have to pay with the big boys". Show girls constitutes playing with the big boys. Doc Weaver

being damn careful with a side mounted gas grill

I did a lot of the same thing. I used a bosch 4 gallon point of use, mini tank (electric). I too used only hot water side. The only thing I used hot water for is showers, and I take fast showers. It stays hot through the entire time and recovers fast even though it is electric. I cook with the...

being damn careful with a side mounted gas grill

I had to make some compromises, but I set out to not have propane on the truck. using a propane grill away from the truck would be okay, but you still have to transport it. Doc Weaver

    Pre-made box vs. custom

they offered it to me, but I'm still working on my first one. I didn't inspect it, but it looked good from a quick walk around. i think they said it had 40k to 50k miles on it. Thats good even on a 3126. Doc Weaver

    Pre-made box vs. custom

kinda back to the original topic, I was at B and D truck and gear in greenwood Louisiana today and they have a topkick straight truck with low miles that they are trying to dump. They bought it for the engine (for a particular customer) who ended up not taking it. I think it's a CAT. It looked...

Greetings from the Great White North

Take it from one who owned a cabover, that flat front end is like pushing a garage door down the highway. You will constantly be looking for a drafting partner. Doc Weaver

    Lower storage unit doors

I would have gladly bought a pre-built box, but I needed an extra tall box and those aren't $200. I kinda screwed myself with the air conditioner size. Doc Weaver

    Lower storage unit doors

DD, As it has been said so many times, the RV industry is starving. I bought my doors (already framed) from Kinro for less than half of retail. Call them directly. http://www.kinro.com/index.htm I bought brackets from a Truck salvage yard and put 1/4 inch sheet steel for a floor. then I built...

    Pre-made box vs. custom

to add to that. all it takes is the smallest little hole to let sound/air in. After my first trip in my truck I went back and filled all those "insignificant" holes and it made a huge difference. Doc Weaver

    What a Tornado can do

After a quick change of the underwear, I thought I might tell of today's experience. I just spent two days going 1000 miles in rain, rain, with some rain. I noticed this goofy looking cloud only 30 feet off the ground right over the truck....looked for a fire...maybe fog?????....NO it was a...

Hey Geofkaye, I can hear the wheels turning all the way over hear. This is a great idea that opens a lot of new doors. Very cool! Doc Weaver

    International 4700 Interior upgrades?

mine had an air ride pedestal with this goofy hand pump attached to the seat base. a military mechanic buddy told me it was common on some military vehicles. It looked like a hand brake in a sports car. Puller, is that what you have? I've never seen another one. Doc Weaver

    International 4700 Interior upgrades?

If you can't find anything pre-made, then you can always take the route I did. I went on Craigslist and bought the rear captains chairs from a ford van. With a little ingenuity, a welder, and factory floor pedestal, I got comfy seats for about $150 Doc Weaver

"Not For Hire" vs "RV" question

I think you are right, but with the "gray area" of DOT/state rules, I thought I would just put my entire process down. There was one step that confused me as I am a novice to truck conversion. b) it did not have a commercial 5th wheel. b) How can a toterhome not have a 5th wheel? Doc Weaver

"Not For Hire" vs "RV" question

I just went through the same hell here in Ohio. I finally contacted The Clerk of Courts in Columbus and here is what she told me to do. 1)sign an affidavit stating: a) the truck would only be used for recreational use b) it did not have a commercial 5th wheel c) it had separate hvac...

Completed Coach Pictures!! Let us know what you think!

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!! I'm ashamed to drive mine now. I'm sure you spent a drastic amount more money and time than I did, but it shows. And the patriotic theme just says it all. Well done. Doc Weaver

    Street Glow lights

Last time I looked it up in Ohio, their particular set of rules were: 1)no blue lights period 2)no flashing lights period 3)neon lights (the actual tube)cannot be seen, but the glow is undefinable (you can get away with it) 4)red lenses should face the rear 5)white lenses with colored...

    What is a "heat strip?"

I am using a Stanley ceramic heater with a "squirrel cage" fan that I bought for about 50 bucks. Since its a "construction" heater, it doesn't turn off with every bump and the fan blows just hard enough to move air in the living quarters. put it in the middle of the floor and ignore it. two...

    Roof Sealant

I used butyl on the recommendation of many, but I have discovered a new leak this week. Its probably a new leak, instead of bad material. Leaks are a pain to hunt down, especially after you have the interior walls installed. Doc Weaver

    Insurance woes

State Farm wouldn't cover my truck as a commercial vehicle, but when I finished conversion and titled and tagged it as a motor home, they will now cover it. And it is quite a bit cheaper to insure as a motor home than a commercial vehicle. (at least in my case) Doc Weaver
