Truck conversion meet and greet rally

The HDT guys are mostly full timers. They have all the time in the world to hangout. I think the conversion group is pretty evenly split between working stiffs (like myself) and retired folks. The question is how far is everyone willing to travel. There is a wonderful campground in Savannah that...

    Canadian made

What is your overall height now? I opted for basement mounted mini splits to keep the profile low and I have almost 8 ft ceilings. Overall I'm still only 12ft 2 inches. The extra ceiling height is fantastic.

    Renegade/Showhauler style hitch setup.

After months (literally) of chasing down leads on a commercially available set up. I finally just went down to the local welder that repairs dump trucks. It ended up costing about the same amount and He used the same type of rear frame cap ( 1 inch plate) that he would put on a 40k dump truck...

Anyone take a CDL test with a gooseneck toter?

Just as a side note. I would encourage you to look at the other liabilities of a CDL. one being a MUCH lower DUI threshold. The second being that if you have a cdl and no DOT numbers that is also a red flag for the DOT cops.

    Insurance

So after all of the horror stories online about insurance. I just wanted to share my experience. We have all of our cars and our house with State Farm. I called them this morning to get insurance (the TC is out getting painted as we speak). The process was PAINLESS. She asked a few questions...

    Wheel weights

What kind of weights are you guys using for balancing your wheels. When I worked for a fleet we had a conventional machine. No one local to me has one so I was wondering what everyone else is doing? Please be specific about what products and what kind of success/problems you have had with them...

"Ratcheting" Rooftop on a box truck?

It depends on the box. the more structure you add up high the worse the truck drives. An frp box would be a stiffer box to start out, but harder to work with moving forward. The aluminum boxes use really crappy (light) z posts and they expect that the inside of the walls (plywood) will actually...

"Ratcheting" Rooftop on a box truck?

Firstly I would caution you that the roof is what holds the sides of the box together. If you take the roof of it will be flimsy like wet cardboard. Depending on your choice of truck a movers "high cube" would give you the most interior height.

    GPS stereos

So after a 4 hour drive into southern GA. My gps pulled me up to a set of railroad tracks that were not cross able by anything short of BIGFOOT. Fortunately it was my pick up with the 40 ft trailer and not my TC, so the U turn was complicated but doable. That got me thinking about my needs in...

Anyone converting box truck to rv

I converted a supreme box. any commercial box is NOT suitable for supporting weight. I doubled the number of roof bows and I still wouldn't walk on it. If you want to box an a/c or vent frame you can add another roof bow alongside and some cross bracing. When I worked on big trucks we used a...

Outdoor Kitchen - Please share photos if you have them.

Thanks Sam. The outdoor kitchen has been one of my design requirements from inception. It's the only door on that side that doesn't open upward. (all of the "work" doors on the other side open sideways) (nobody like getting hit with a door while dumping tanks or servicing the generator) :)

Outdoor Kitchen - Please share photos if you have them.

I actually used semi trailer door hinges to mount my exterior door and built the grill right on the door. I have a "big gas grill 2" mounted on a frame that swings open flush with the side of the truck. I mounted the grill so that it swings out and is 14 inches away from the side of the truck so...

    Ac while on the road

Most of these trucks had sleepers. and therefore came with rear a/c. You need the sleeper unit from your type of OTR truck, Looks like a 9600 international? You may have to run longer lines but the sleeper unit has it's own blower unit and evap all in one box, and it's designed to be run off the...
