What was I thinking?

I thought about that, but if the roof gets damaged I can weld a patch in without having to de-laminate it. It would likely catch fire if I tried to weld it with the foam.

I'm hoping to get the walls sprayed this week, Then I'll drive it around and see what is still twisting. So far it is rock solid during all of my drives. Even over really bad RR tracks.

i am considering starting another conversion. i have a freightliner fl106 w/ 50 series detroit, 9 speed, 72" bentz sleeper, 22' box and air ride. ideally, i would remove the sleeper. move the box forward. put the pass thru into the front of the box. this would give me 6' behind the box to put on a fifth wheel and gooseneck hitch. i am just not sure if i want to put all that work into a 2001 truck.
however, it would be so much stronger, easier to work on, and less maintenance than the diesel pushers i can afford. in preparation, i bought a damaged 2011 5th wheel camper with 3 slides to use a donor. it has all the pieces to make a really nice motorhome. remote control slides, remote awning, automatic hydraulic leveling system, fireplace, dual zone hvac, washer/ dryer, and so on.

there is just only so much time in a day.....and i am only 1 man.

I have built the greatest portion of this on my own. I'm having an absolute blast. I love building things and have built many things (hot rods/race cars/dune buggies/custom golf carts/ etc). So this is right up my alley. I also bought an old travel trailer for the doors/windows/slide components. It has worked great so far.
However, If you don't really LOVE the process, I would just buy a used unit and go enjoy it.
My biggest problem so far is all of the little things that I think I'll do different on the NEXT one. :)

Update. Captains log jan 2017

So the holidays turned out to be productive after all.
We managed to ge the 120v wiring roughed in and al of the boxes hung. we prewired all of the coax for cable., wired most of the 12v wiring, sprayed the insulation, hung the pocket doors and painted the slide out. I'm very happy with the outcome.

No, Life has prevented progress for a few months. I worked on it for the first time in a while on Saturday.
