Tank Sensors

Hi All,

Love everything about our ShowHauler except....The tank sensors have been a problem from day one. Always showing full or erratic.

Had it back to ShowHauler and all of us threw up our hands. Tried everything from tanks cleaners to Coca Cola. So it looks like new sensors or a new system.

I have seen the Horst sensors, but the ShowHauler guys scared me with aftermarket leaking fears. I have seen a system called SeeLevel that uses outsides sensors, but seems to require all new electronics.

Thought I would check in here for any ideas before proceeding.

For us the main concern with tank accuracy is the black tank sensor, the grey is easily disposed of so we are less concerned with accuracy. Our coach has the standard control panel that gives the false readings. Our toilet however is a Tecma macerator toilet, the toilet comes with additional sensors that mount outside the tank, The pushbutton flush on the wall starts Green, then goes Amber, then Red, These readings are accurate and at least our Black tank volume is clear to us. The bottom line, you could change the toilet, that will solve half the problem, G

My sensors are all over the map too. I can just look down the toilet when I flush it to see how high the crap is in there. And I've never filled up the gray tank before the black. I think if I were to fill the gray it would come up in the shower so I'd know it. My 200 gallons of fresh water (2x100 gallon tanks) is under the master bed. It was hard to get to because the decking is screwed down on the framing. I cut a hole in the siding underneath the bed. Then I mounted a wooden drawer front that I bought at Menard's (like a lowes or Home Depot). I used some regular hinges on it at the top edge so when it is shut it's hanging down from the hinges. Then if I want to see what my fresh water tank is at I just lift up that panel and shine a flashlite in at the tank. Next step is to mount a light above the tank so I don't have to use my flashlite.

My 75 gallon black tank better never fill up or I will have to stop eating and drinking or have less parties when out and about.

Bob,
The SeeLevel set-up on this truck and on my last truck have worked very well for us.

It's an easy swap if you can get to the wires and the tanks.

Read about them on-line and give them a call. They were very helpfull in my first retrofit a few years back. I specified them on my second build and they were again helpfull and easy to work with.

Now the builder of my coach uses them quite often for other customers.

PS After looking at your website you almost have to go with SeeLevel...

It does seem that the SeeLevel product is the only simple reliable choice. I went to their website and see that they have a sale going on, so I ordered the 4 tank version and will figure out how and where to mount it when it arrives. It is normally $375, but is on sale for $235.

I am thinking of just mounting it in the water bay so that I do not have to run wires all over.

My main reason for this is that we carry 200 gallons of water in two tanks. When we are off-grid, I fill the tanks and when I know were are going to another place with hookups, I run low water to reduce the weight. We are fairly light for our size and I know the extra water weight is insignificant.

Probably a part of me just wants to know how much water I have even though I am not a control freak...I am not, I am not!
