Tag hitch to gooseneck insert

Here is a hitch insert I've built to haul my open gooseneck behind my motorhome. Back in June I upgraded from a toterhome to a motorhome, and I needed a way to haul my trailers. We mud race and bogg our trucks and atvs and use a large open trailer.

I still have to make a way to attach safety chains, I'm going to use some shackles to mount them, I also have to paint it. It is built out of 3/8 steel with a 1 inch top plate for the ball. The ball is rated for 30,000lbs. I will probably only max out around 22,000 and I think the hitch will easily handle that. The 2 inch receiver will be used for carry alls and maybe a toad later on.

I had been looking around for one of those. Don't own a gooseneck now, but I was considering a gooseneck open car hauler. I have not seen one of those adapters since my first TC test drive. The gentleman who owned that TC pulled a huge race trailer on one of those mounts, but I've never seen one available retail. Nice work!

I have a couple of friends who built theirs, haven't seen any for sale. Got the shackle holes drilled for the safety chain hooks. Here it is before paint, waiting on it to dry and hope to pit it on tomorrow.

Hitch picture. The safety chains look tight but they worked perfectly, I think it's funny the left chain is shorter than the right. Must have slipped quality control at big tex! Lol!

Took it for a 60 mile test drive, empty trailer, was watching how close the trailer was to the back of the motorhome. Never got close to worry about. This trailer is 20+5 with an 8 foot gooseneck hitch. This is like having a 33 foot tag trailer. It followed very close in the turns, I did have to swing wide but not as bad as I thought. On the interstate you could barely see it in the driver mirror and nothing on the pass mirror unless turning.
I do plan on going to a 30 foot(38total) gooseneck in a dual tandem configuration. The neck will be narrower for even more turning radius and should be even more stable with the 8 tires.

On a side note, I wonder what is the maximum tow capacity of my renegade?

Glad to hear on the trailer. Next question, what toys are you going to be taking with you? I want to take the car a boat and maybe a golf cart...... Should have a place so the wife can hang her extra clothes..... But no cover on a open goose neck. I can only hope.

We're going to Florida for thanksgiving, I will take a couple atvs and my wife's jeep. We are going to a place called hogwaller atv park in Palatka. They have a big mega truck race on Saturday. The rest of the time me and my boys will ride in the swamps and the wife can go shopping in her jeep.

This is what I take when we go to the big truck mud parks, we go to a lot of the trucks gone wild events. That's more of an adult themed good time, over thanksgiving we take my boys and ride atvs.

Where would you find the towing capacity for my renegade? I've heard 30k and I've heard 40k? I figure with the single rear axle it would be 30k?

Here is the trailer loaded with the two atvs and my wife's jeep. The trailer is a 25 foot plus 8 for the gooseneck. It looks small behind the motorhome. I am looking to upgrade to a 30 foot version. I have been thinking of trying a hydraulic dove trailer.

That may bend if you tow a C13 Cat excavator with it

Is the hitch welded to the truck?

No it's not welded, it pins on like the factory hitch, only difference is that it uses both pins! Lol!
