Thoughts?

My limited research indicates that there are a few jump box manufacturers who claim their jump box will start a semi-truck. My research also indicates that good 1/0 gauge american made jumper cables are comparable in price to the aforementioned jump boxes.

I would have to see the jump box that can start a semi. Not exactly an easy task for real truck size batteries, why do you think there are multiple?

Way back in the day before you could buy a chinese pos jump box on every street corner, I was a dealer for Jump-n-Carry, which is a top quality usa made unit. My dad still has his that he uses on his farm after 15 years. I used to carry the automotive 660 amp version. I used to demonstrate it on a diesel pickup, it would start it with the truck battery disconnected and just clamped to the bare cables. That made the sale every time. Anyway, I see they now make them up to 3000 amp for big truck applications. Here is the website:

you can spend some pretty hefty $$$ ($300+) on a jump pack large enough to start a coach....and theyre HEAVY & present storage issues (better keep it charged too).

comparatively you can spend some good money on a set of heavy duty jumper cables (or make your own by using welding cable)....even if you spent a 150 bucks on some 1 gauge jumper cables you'd be money ahead imo.

I keep a nice (long set) of jumper cables in my "too" storage bin....theyre long enough to reach between my 3 house batteries and my 3 engine batteries...i can effectively jump MYSELF.

Ok. I got a pair of 25' 2ga. cables. I wanted to go with a larger gauge, but in American made, the next step up that I found was triple the price.

Jump box idea abandoned for now.

I carry a set made from 25´ welding cables. Never failed me yet and the length is worth it.
I made my nearly 20 years ago from damaged cable my boss was throwing out. Added 4 heavy ends and paid him for the copper.
