In the design stages

Sorry levig, I shouldn't have hijacked it. Back on thread topic, wow, you guys are way way smarter than me about all this engineering stuff. I'm very impressed.

No big deal guys, the weight balance brings a whole new thought process into my design, the good news for me is my design software will put a center of gravity on all of my assemblies. Thank goodness, i spent enough time in engineering school doing all that stuff by hand, time for a little easy work. :)

Don, that can't possibly be correct. I think somebody made a mistake there. A 5k lb. max trailer?! No way. I think what they meant was a 40k lb. trailer. Your engine and trans are certainly made for an 80k lb load, all day every day. I think somebody at Showhauler mixed things up. Is there a gcwr rating on the original Freightliner sticker?

I think that means 5k on the pin not the trailer weight.

This is kind of the look i am going for. Anyone know of a good place to get that nice rounded trim that is used around the corners of the box?

I found some of the cast aluminum upper corner for both front and back of the box, plus the rounded stainless caps (they also had diamond plate) for the uprights at an RV surplus place near Elkhart. The name escapes me just now, but they were a couple miles west of Bontrager's Surplus in White Pigeon, MI (just over the line). They had a selection of surplus corners and you kind of had to dig through the bin and find some that had the shape you were after, then dig through the stack of sheet metal... you get the idea. Got mine that way for cheap. All those surplus places have websites too, just google something like elkhart rv surplus.

Daddy has a good idea too, find a brand of enclosed trailer that uses something like you want, and call them for "replacement parts for your trailer".

Heck buy an 102" wide by the length you need, enclosed trailer and remove the hitch/axles and set it on your truck, then build a set of basement boxes to support and match the trailer. then just modify the trailer interior as needed. ????
