Anyone take a CDL test with a gooseneck toter?

I had to redo the whole test because I switched to the B group. I passed the pre trip, took no points on the skills, and passed the road test. It was pretty stressful driving with the tester and I was so nervous I missed all the overhead height signs.....lol. I have a dually and trailer lined...

    Toter purchase advice

Although mostly good things I hear about the auto/ultra shifts, this story scares me...lol. My 2003 Columbia has a two pedal 12 speed auto shift trans. It seems great. Lack of a clutch pedal is kinda hard to learn to back up, but not bad with some practice. I'm glad your moving in a good...

Anyone take a CDL test with a gooseneck toter?

Well, I failed my first try. I ace'd the pre trip and air brakes. I set up wrong for the straight line(stupid.....the easiest one!) That got me panicked and used up a bunch of points. I completed the offset fine, but hit max points on the alley dock. I have since found a loophole that will...

Anyone take a CDL test with a gooseneck toter?

I don't drink and drive, not an issue. I don't NEED a CDL to drive my race rig........unless an officer decides I do. How do I get around that? I'm not going to be three states away and not be able to drive my rig. I don't plan on telling the officer I have the CDL for my race rig. I will...

Anyone take a CDL test with a gooseneck toter?

I also am not going full commercial. I don't plan on using the "CDL card" unless I needed it and would continue claiming I'm not commercial.....which I am. I have not heard one bad story about a non professional racer, with a unmarked toter/trailer, getting pulled over having a CDL. So far...

Anyone take a CDL test with a gooseneck toter?

I have two issues. 1) Michigan will allow me to be 75' with a CDL. So I would be totally legal in my home state. 2) The only thing that would most likely ruin a racing trip is if the DOT considered me commercial and parked me until a CDL holder could drive my rig away. I realize there may be...

Anyone take a CDL test with a gooseneck toter?

Instead of constantly being prepared to fight the system, I decided last winter to go ahead and just get my class A cdl. I'm really not commercial, but my state doesn't care and has relaxed the laws to allow motorhome/trailers to be used for a test. My question is, will my gooseneck hitch be...

    GPS stereos

This is a good thread.....lol. Since purchasing my 13.3' tall, 72' long rig and trailer, my worst fear of all time happened coming home from southern Ill this summer. The average Joe, Garmin GPS we used(as in, we will not be using it again) took us on a wrong turn in Indy, putting us in a...

    Tag hitch to gooseneck insert

I have a NRC GN toter and have not found anything concrete on towing capacity. Here's the way I look at it, you should be able to tow whatever your axle and tire ratings are as long as you follow federal bridge laws. The short story is, 20K max on the rear axle, probably 13880# on the front...

Anyone converting box truck to rv

My trailer had 1" angle frames, that screwed to the roof supports anywhere there was wiring for a roof air.

    Toter purchase advice

I hear ya. I bought mine from a dude that knew nothing about it, but the price was right. Took me hours of testing before I realized there was a dash switch that activated a solenoid to turn the coach power on/off. lol.

    Toter purchase advice

I'm reasonably sure my charger is probably not smart.....however I assumed it would be since it is 2017! I could disconnect the charger and put a $30 smart maintainer in the battery compartment. I guess I don't feel too bad, the center still works good for 110v and 12v circuit protection.

    Toter purchase advice

Huh, this kinda sucks. After researching, I put a Parallax electrical center/charger in my stacker trailer while building it because it seemed like the best way. No problems so far......same unit in my toter. My '03 truck has a 14L, 500 hp Detroit that starts right up like a car. It has a 12...

    Meritor front axle ratings

Good to know. I also have no idea about the dual steer deal, but mine steers fine stopped. I was thinking of replacing the axle, but I have a couple more tricks to get the weight below 14,600#fully loaded.

    Meritor front axle ratings

If you guys are getting tired of my research, just let me know. I find it interesting, but others may think it's a waste of space. While I had my front wheel off, I looked at my front axle tag and found it was a Meritor FG-941, which after doing some internet digging, means it's rated for...

Front wheel change from 8.250" to 9.0"

Just thought I'd share some front wheel research I've done. My '03 Freightliner Columbia(not sure if other trucks are the same) with a 13,880# front axle had Accuride 8.250" wide wheels with a 7400# @120 psi rating. I found Accuride makes 8000# @131 psi wheels that are 8.250", but I ran into a...

12,500w onan generator fuel filter question

I just did mine this summer. you can take the mount nut loose, then pull the filter out of the box. The fuel lines are long enough to do this. Loosen lines, change filter, repeat backwards. Not that bad.

Extended the rear of my gooseneck toter

About 26'. It is a 15' box on a class 8 chassis. About 33' 4" from front bumper to the ball. I have not seen any stretch marks, so I'm assuming this is a standard chassis/wheelbase of some sort.

    new build

I read somewhere 6' from ball to back of rig is considered max deck length. I have 33" and am considering moving the hitch on my trailer 1.5" farther back just to shorten the whole rig up. I'm waiting until I'm done with building the trailer(about 90% done now) so I can check the weight on the...

Extended the rear of my gooseneck toter

Yes. This setup tows absolutely flawlessly......even in very high winds. The original ball was 12" behind the axle centerline. I found out after weighing my rig, before I started building my stacker trailer, that the front axle was over 1500# heavier than rated. I was able to move the ball...

    Slide toppers?

I replaced the slide awning canvas on my pusher. It took a couple hours by myself. Not a bad job and the cost was around $150 if I remember correctly. I think I bought my canvas off Ebay.

    45' moving van conversion

I didn't read the link, so forgive me if I'm restating something(a lot of people think they know and are clueless) I have been in contact with FMC and State of Michigan dot. Question #21 on FMC site may answer any questions you have. I race for pure hobby(more like vacation) since I rarely...

Moved 2K# behind the rear axle, disappointing results.

As some of you may have followed my situation on lightening the front axle weight on my gooseneck toter, the results are in. I don't have exact apples to apples weigh slips, but I can figure the math. To recap, I started with a front axle weight of 15500# on a truck rated for 13880. I moved...
