    Question about rear overhang

I'm not sure about the technical aspects of it, but my TC only has one compartment behind the drive axles (about 48") and I've dragged the trailer hitch a couple times. I've often wondered how the rigs with even more overhang manage it.

    Texas Newbee

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a nice plan. Sorry I don't know much about that type of setup, but you may find what you need here or over on the HDT - Escapees forum. I think you will find the Volvo to be very popular in the HDT community, and for good cause. Good luck with your build.

    45' moving van conversion

https://seabeemagazine.navylive.dodlive.mil/files/2014/05/NAVEDTRA-14050A-Construction-Mechanic-Advanced-Part-4.pdf This has a good wiring diagram. I apologize if I made this confusing. That is not the nature of the project, that is my inability to communicate clearly. Hope the link helps.

    45' moving van conversion

It really depends on how the lights you selected are set up and what condition the existing wiring is in. I doubt you could find an entire plug and play harness for a dry box. If there is already a hot wire, I'd just install a ground, starting at the plug (so it can be connected to truck...

    45' moving van conversion

It may not be a bad idea to go ahead and add a ground wire and a turn signal lead (if there isn't one near the outside already) I'm a big fan of the "mid ship" turn signals, and plan to add two to my renegade one day. Also, a good solid hardwired ground is preferable to "screw ground" in my...

    45' moving van conversion

I like the polished aluminum. Is it coated, so it won't oxidize, or will it require regular re-polishing. There are so many great after market parts and lighting options for the Petes! I'm jealous. I guess most campgrounds are just out of the question for that rig? However, I'm also...

    Boat Ramps?

A few years ago, when I was considering a heavy hauler instead of a truck conversion, I spoke to a gentleman who specialized in singling out Semis for towing big 5th wheels. When I told him that I wanted the truck to do double duty as a RV hauler and a boat hauler, he said it was not the...

    LED Headlights

This is the write up I posted on the truck forum: i bought two new freight liner headlight assemblies and a set of Jeep headlight retaining rings and set them aside. Then I removed the factory headlights from the truck , carefully cut away the lenses, right in the seam between the clear lense...

    Led bulbs in a Columbia

Sorry no direct experience, but the folks over at headlight revolution claim to now offer an LED upgrade that is made for a halogen housing, thus reducing the chance of blinding other drivers.

    When hooked up to sewer...

The thetford toilet in our RV has a ball valve, instead of a flap. I don't know what the seal life on it may be, but odds are that daily use is better than letting it sit. Look at all the full-timers with those things. I had a boat with the toilet and shower, and bathroom sink all in one...

    When hooked up to sewer...

A real household toilet would be nice. However, wouldn't the household toilet with rear tank take up too much space and run the risk of having the tank slop over going down the road? It would certainly ensure enough water to solids ratio, maybe too much if you were boondocking.

    New Steer tires: Three questions

Well the steers are done, but I will certainly keep that in mind when the drives mature to retirement. Fun fact: These newish (3017) steers (Michelin X Coach HL Z - 295/80 R22.5) were manufactured in Germany!

    New Steer tires: Three questions

Ok, so the big Michelin dealer I was holding out for said that the tires he was able to get had a '14 date code! I think he just did not want to attempt a re-order. Since I have a trip coming up next week, I decided to move forward with the '17 tires. When mounting the new tires, the dealer...

    New Steer tires: Three questions

Thank you very much for your insights. I was buying into the logic of the rubber's suspended animation while in storage, until Michelin said they drew the line at 3 years of storage. That would mean that the tires I was offered were already over half way through their shelf life. If they do...

    New Steer tires: Three questions

The nice lady at Michelin said that the tires have a maximum shelf life of three years. She went on to say that tires manufactured prior to 2017 have a 5 year warranty. Tires manufactured in 2017 and after have a 7 year warranty. It is just a prorated tire warranty, which hardly seems...

    New Steer tires: Three questions

Ok tire Gurus, please help me out with this: Went to dealer today and the tires had a date code of 3017! Over a year old already. The salesman apologized and is trying to find "fresher" tires. I did some research and called another dealer. He stated that there was no way anyone at the...

    New Steer tires: Three questions

What is the current conventional wisdom about steer tire age? Mine show very little wear, and have no sidewall dry rot that I can see, but I think they are 6yrs old. Is it time to replace them anyway? Anyone running the Michelin X Coach HL Zs? I was just wondering how the extra weight...

Side Marker/Turn Signals - the lighting fetish continues

Thanks for posting the photo. What make are those lights? Polishing the lights does help a bunch. I'm heading out tomorrow, in the rain as usual. Guess I'll just pack those side marker light sockets with dielectric grease and hit the road. Took a peak at a new Renegade last week...
