"Not For Hire" vs "RV" question

Thing is though, you can be "Not For Hire" or "Private" and STILL be commercial. A very grey area and unfortunately there are no black and white answers. You can ask BMV, DOT, State Troopers, Local Cops, etc and you would get different answers from everyone. BMV is least reliable, local cops...

"Not For Hire" vs "RV" question

If I recall, IN does not have a "non-commercial" type registration for HDTs. I know some other states allow you to reg it as a large pickup truck. So if you do not go the RV route, in addition to the things you listed, you're looking at commercial insurance, log books, some campgrounds not...

2004 49' OD Kingsley garage unit, 3 axle, 25k miles, $250k, on ebay.

Not that I know of. I had dinner with them and a few other Kingsley owners, as well as the original owner of Kingsley in this coach down at the Tampa RV Show. There are several very loyal Kingsley owners. I know of one that buys a new coach every 2 years.

    Hoosier state regulations...???

If I recall, you need 5 of the 7 most required items. The 780 our Kingsley was built on had 6 of them right from Volvo. The 730 that we had spec'd out would also have 6 of them. If my memeory serves they are: 1) Separate power source (i.e. inverter or generator) 2) Cooking facilities (i.e...

    Service Truck/Large Pickup

Why not go with a F450 or F550 with a good hauler bed built on it? I know not out of the ordinary but it is functional. I have a F550 Lariat 4x4 CC with a Classy Chassis oem bed conversion it. The truck weighs in at 9300 with full tanks (a 40 rear and a 19 mid), myself, 2 of my kids (60#)...

    Hoosier state regulations...???

There have been several people that have done it and I myself have looked into doing it with a Volvo 730. There are several threads about it over on the skp forums. In short, you need to get a LEO to sign a vehicle modification form for you certifying that you meet the IN requirements for a...

2004 49' OD Kingsley garage unit, 3 axle, 25k miles, $250k, on ebay.

I personally have met the owners of this coach on several occassions. I can pretty much guarantee that it was not a repo and they always took extremely good care of their stuff. The bikes they carried in the garage were always spotless also. The exterior is all custom painted (i.e. not by...

    Just starting conversion, 07 Columbia

Too bad that is exactly how our 2005 Kingsley Coach is built and it is for sale. You could have just come and drove it home. Three bunks in the rear with a jiffy sofa also, stacking washer/dryer, etc, etc. It cost over $400K to build and we're selling it with 18K miles for only $225K. It is...

    Paint Schemes

This was posted several months ago. It was a design contest in Germany. I forgot which of teh designs placed 1-3 to win but they are all pretty cool. There are actually more of them in the original post but I can't seem to find the original post.

    Elburn Bill at Pomona FMCA?

It's burgundy! But no it is not me but it was my coach. Kingsley is bringing it down to the FMCA Rally trying to sell it for me and I think they are also using it for a display. It will be there the entire event so feel free to stop by and write a check!

Volvo vs Pete vs Kenworth vs frtliner?

A BMW X5!! You are fighting the laws of physics with these trucks. I have driven both the T2 and my Kingsley is built on a 780. The T2 seemed somewhere between the Freightliner and the Volvo, more towards the Volvo but not close enough for me to call them equals. That's my $.02.

    Frame-Painting?

My past experience with VHB is that it will stick to the paint just as good as it will the metal assuming the paint is going to stick to the metal and the paint is clean/degreased. I have had the VHB pull the paint off of vehicles that were not prepped properly prior to the paint application.

    Exterior Materials

You are correct that is fluted stainless steel panels. Practical??? Thats ALOT of polishing to do. You would also probably blind all the other dirvers on the road with the sun glare off the different angles of the body.

Pay no sales or property tax on next vehicle purchase. Scam or truth?

That depends upon what your state sales tax, registration fee, plate fee, etc is. In IL it was 7.5% and I do not remember the other fees. In IN the sales tax is 6% but then they get you every year for a personal property tax and for MH they calculate that the same as they do the property...

    Fuel Mileage

Living in LaPorte, IN (about 35 miles west of RV Central - Elhart, IN) and having my property butt up to I80/Indiana Toll Road. I see all sorts of RVs (MH, 5ers, and TT as well as cargo/car/livestock trailers) go by being delivered by these people. There are a ton of them so it must be ok...

Building my own, more trouble then its worth?

I know when I was trying to order a new Volvo for my Kingsley back in '04, Volvo would only let you order up to a certain length of frame rail from the factory. We needed more. They agreed to let me order it but the Volvo engineers wanted to do extensive testing on it AT MY EXPENSE and it was...

Building my own, more trouble then its worth?

But in reality how much family stuff is going to be in the cab? In our 780 all we had up there was the electronics and they were all installed very securely. We also had a bunch of folders (reg, insurance, etc) but they were in the upper storage cabinet. IMHO there would not be much, if...

Pay no sales or property tax on next vehicle purchase. Scam or truth?

Not a scam. Many have done it, including me and several other here. I have not heard of this company before. I used Bennett Law Offices in Missoula, MT. You can do a search here or on RV.net or just about any rving site and there will be a plethora of info. You must check into the legality...

Building my own, more trouble then its worth?

Gary, It looks like and from the best I can gather from thier website that the Argosy has a flip up hood under the windshield that allows the driver to access all the things necessary on a daily basis. Check oil, filters, electrical buses, etc. The only need to flip the cab would be for...

I wonder how hard it would be to mount the cab to slide out rails (per Kaye) and then use an inflatable seal like those used by Newell Coach and the airlines for their doors. We could make it on a contact switch so that when the cab is released it automatically deflates and then once the cab...
