The Loooongest Toterhomes I have ever seen!

That is true to a point. For instance, twin 28' pup trailers will go places a 53' will not. Beyond that, a toter this long may be fine out west but in the confines of small east coast towns there is no way to make many of the turns.

Extra lights on the trailer rear.

I just picked up on this on another forum and thought I would pass it along. Bear in mind this is for a commercial vehicle. Per FMCSA reg 393.11(d), Prohibition on the use of auxiliary lamps that supplement the identification lamps. No commercial motor vehicle may be equipped with lamps that...

    Ugly but potential?

Can't argue with that. I used to get the doors blown off my 8V71 Mack by a guy with a 12V71 in an Astro. Never drove one myself but I did drive a GMC with a V12 gas engine. Two of those V6 blocks together. What a treat to set up those two distributers. See also Werner Enterprises V16 show...

Do Truck Conversions ever have tag axles like MCI busses?

Because the tag axle on a bus is NOT driven, where the twin axles on most conversions are BOTH driven. Also, the tag on a bus is not rated for as much weight as the drive axle, hence the single wheels, but both driven axles on most trucks are rated for the same weight per axle, hence duallies...

What class is this conversion? International DT466.

An auto would be even more of a slug. Even on the level, you would not be happy with the lack of true power and responce. A trailer would mean more weight to pull with not enough power. And, perhaps poor handling. The chassis might have adequate springs but the medium duty cabs don't ride or...

What class is this conversion? International DT466.

I understand the DOT definition of a class 8 truck is anything over a GVW of 33,001 lbs. Based on the info provided, I would consider this to be a medium duty chassis. That is not to say the chassis is overloaded per sey. The DT466 is a good engine. However, coupled with the 7 speed, this...

Now here is a real conversion

While cab over production has almost ceased in the US, it is the only viable means in Europe. European truck makers have made great strides in airodynamics as well as power train, ride, etc. of course. Those "ponies" are riding in comfort!

    2006 ? 33ft conversion -strange rear axle

Too bad there is not much info. I have seen Canadian spread axle tractors but I don't recall one to that extent. Nor do I know their laws. Spreads are used to increase allowable axle loads. Some axles are setup to airlift, some you can only dump the air bags to take some weight off and others...

    Axle Removal

The commercial specs are >4/32 on the steering axle and >2/32 on any other axles. And FWIW, no mixing of bias/radial tires or different sized tires on the same axle.

    Not so pretty

This kind of setup is called a "jake leg" with both axles being steerable. It will give the front end a little more floatation over soft surfaces. It also aids when turning the front end by limiting a tendency to skid rather than turn.

    Commercial Legal Questions

Hi all! I would like to make a quick intro then add to this discussion. While I don't currently own an RV, I do co-own a small horse farm. As such, I pull both horse and equipment trailers. I drove commercially for ~12 years, went to school, worked in high tech for 20 years until my work went to...
