Where's Spooner??? The Hell With Geoff!!!

Hey Marc(or should I say Mick?), I resisted the desire to respond to this. Mostly bcause it is bad form to air dirty laundry from one forum in another. However, my resolve has failed me. I mostly lurk, here and in several groups, gleaning info and, from time to time, trying to offer answers to...

    BBC dim. clarification.

When figuring overall legnth you figure not only BBC+box legnth, but also the space between the cab and box(for the flex boot) and the rear bumper and then round up to the next even foot. So, a BBC of 112"(9'4")+ a 30' box + a 4" flex boot and a 6" bumper get's you to 40'2". Since it's over 40'...

2001 Kingsley, Kenworth chassis, 55' OD, 600hp, 41k miles, $750k invested, on ebay.

The C-16 and the C-15 twin-turbo could b factory rated at 600HP. Can't see putting one in an RV though. Less than 4mpg with no bennefit.

    Roadranger 9 speed transmission

Your clutch brake isn't engaging. Take the truck to a shop that handles big rig and have the adjustment checked. Don't pressure wash. You don't want that much water inside the housing and it could push the dirt deeper in to parts where you don't want it. Also, get the inspection plate replaced.

    Roadranger 9 speed transmission

Your clutch brake isn't engaging. Check to see how much free play you have at the top of the clutch pedal. If the clutch pedal moves more than an inch without disengaging the clutch, combined with no clutch brake, tells me the clutch needs to be adjusted.

    CB RADIO

Uniden=Cobra. Same boards, chasis and cases. Knobs and names are the only difference between the radios. Either one you can't go wrong. That being said, I don't care for combined function radios. Particularly CB/WX. Kind of difficult to communicate a hazard while you're listening to the weather...

    Welding on frame

Frame manufacturers will void a warantee if you weld to, cut or drill the flange of the frame. This is because the flange provides the bulk of the strength of the frame. Heat from welding can destroy the temper and cause fishers/fractures which will destroy the integrity of the frame. Cutting...

Coach In The Making II - Final Finished!!!

There have been a few companies experimenting with air powered disk brake systems for several years. The problem has been getting the the friction surface large enough to 1)actually stop the rig and 2)disipate enough heat fast enough to prevent failure.

Coach In The Making II - Final Finished!!!

I think I see the problem here. You guys are talking about the M2 100 when you mention the M2. I'm looking at the larger M2 112. Which is available with much larger drivetrains. Including the 450HP MBE-4000 and the 430HP Cat C13. Am I to assume the 112 isn't made available to the conversion...

Coach In The Making II - Final Finished!!!

Don't get me wrong. I don't doubt for a minute that you'll be happy with the Volvo. I just question a dealer not offering an engine that is available. According to Freightliners web-site, the M2 is available with a range of engines from Cat and MB.

    Coach Cage Frame construction

For the most part, money and time. And time is money. Rivets are expensive and labor intensive compared to the glue and the 3M tape. Then, to a lesser extent, appearance. Most folks prefer a smooth surface on their RV's. Rivets have an industrial look to them. It's also more difficult to do...

Coach In The Making II - Final Finished!!!

I don't understand this statement. With Freightliner, you should have had the option of Mercedes, Caterpillar and Detroit. Your dealer should've made this clear.

2005 Freightliner/Renegade toter with 3 axle trailer on ebay.

geoff, Of course the glitz goes. OCC is selling the truck, not an ad campaign. BravestDog, Kibbi makes a very nice rig. I wouldn't want so much stainless on one(I'd rather spend my time enjoying the rig than cleaning it). Hell, if I had the money, I might bid just to get the chance to slug Paul...

    Comments wanted: 2000 Freightliner/Trendsetter 26'.

The price isn't bad for the conversion. However, the auto trans kills it for me. For fuel econ you want to keep the rpms in a narrow band, 1200 on the low end and 1600 up high. The 6 speed, IIRC has an 800rpm band between shifts. That's out of the sweet spot by 200rpm's at both ends of the...

    More ground clearance needed??

geof, When you use a body lift or a suspension lift, there's more to consider than just getting it into the air. Steering geometry, drive shaft angles, center of gravity and a few other items get shanged. If you don't make the appropriate accomidations, such as a modified pitman arm, shimming...

<Truck drivers point of view> I can only see one problem with a device such as this. While you're paying attention to the screen, who's watching the road? Traffic, speedo, traffic, tach, traffic, pyrometer, traffic, primary air, traffic, secondary air, traffic, trans temp, traffic, engine temp...

Could you ever go back to a Class A?

LOL!!! A pot hole could blow it out, theoretically. But, a pot hole large enough to blow a decent(re: Goodyear) air-bag would also take out the tire, rim and spindle. And you'd have to be running triple digits. The reason air-ride front ends aren't popular is two-fold. First, they're expensive...

    Super Singles instead of Duals?

geof, I had an opportunity to run a set for a week, while my truck was in the shop. The boss had just taken delivery on a new truck that had them. They do reduce the curb weight of the truck by a slight margin. They also give a slightly more comfortable ride. However, that comfort goes out the...

    Tire Pressure?

Having read this thread, I have one question for all. Has anyone considered looking at the side of the tire? They put a recomended air pressure there for a reason. If it says 90psi, put 90psi in it. It's not designed to be run on less. Under-inflation causes crowning(outer treads wearing faster...

    A few points to ponder.

Greetings Larry, Not to pick nits, but my name is James The only reason I mentioned Freightliners reconfig program is because it's the easiest, most economical way to convert an integral sleeper in to a day cab. What you say about Freightliner is true. It is also true of almost every other...

    A few points to ponder.

I've been wanting to do this(class 8 to class 7 conversion) for some time but, having never seen it or discussed it with anyone, had no idea where to begin. Being a truck driver for the last 9 years, I know some about trucks and have seen class 8's converted to class 7's for hot-shot work. But...
