Front Axle Rating for a HDT Motorhome

I know Show Hauler weighs each coach to make sure it is not oer on teh front axle rating. Mine is a 46ft unit with a twin screw and 14,000lb axle and we are just under the 14,000lbs when fully loaded with trailer. So I agree with Bob, bigger is better.

"Not For Hire" vs "RV" question

When I was pulling my 32ft trailer behind my Show Hauler I was over 83 ft long. I pulled this combo for 7 years and never got stopped or did i ever bother to go into the scales. We went all over this great land and traveled many back roads as well as many interstate highways. We never had a...

Rear Axle placement questions. What determines their location?

One other thing to consider is how strong the frame is. If you move the axles rearward then the fram flex will increase and you may need to reinforce it. I have seen some conversions that showed severe signs of the box flexing becouse of the distance in between the front and rear axles. The...

fl-70 conversion to a toter in california

Speaking of the emissions, you need to look forward to 2010 and what Califonia will require then. Being a 2000 it is already behind the curve. Many new regulations are taking effect with some mandating compliance for older model engines.

saw a blow out of a super single fatty today

To clarify why some carriers are using the super single, I will try to explain. Fleets the size of Cowan and many others are placing them on the trucks and the trailers because they offer an overall weight reduction as well as less rolling resistance. The carrier will see increased payload...

What are people thinking when they build conversions over 40 feet in length?

AS someone who has a 46ft conversion, I guess I can partially answer your question. We spec'd ours out and designed the floor plan to meet our needs at the time. We are in Virginia and do not see us ever driving to Ca. My wife never liked driving our previous bus style motor homes but once...

    Cummins N-14 - Gear Ratios

Chuck, With the weight and configuration I think by changing the rear end ratio is not going to present you with any performance issues. I think changing the rear end ring and pinion would be your cheapest route unlee you were already going to change wheels and tires. The fuel mileage will...

" Posted April 22, 2008 08:20 PM Hide Post Can anyone tell me if there are states that do not allow trucks with 16,000# axles. We recently bought a toterhome that the front end weight is over 16,500 #'s. We are considering putting on a higher weight axle, but have been told that some states...

I do not know if the ecm detects oil pressure during startup or not. I know that if it does not detect oil pressure within the first 20 seconds of the engine running then the ecm will initiate a red light fault code and shut down the engine. I guess you would have to contact Detroit and ask...

Tag axle on a 3 axle conversion. Why not a dually rear 2 axle???

It could be that the truck came with it or they added it to it becouse of the overall weight of the conversion. The single wheel would give better fuel mileage and a better ride than a dual. Making it a dual would not give any real advantage except for braking if you were pulling a heavyload...

    Showhauler Crap!

FRP is not what he had a problem with in the Show Hauler. The FRP was a good product as long as people kept it sealed. The semi-trailers have moved into stronger lighter material for composite trailer side walls that so far do not have the tendancy to absorb moisture. I believe that CJC has...
