    Frame Welding

air system Well it took three weeks but I have the air system finished. I also replaced all of the water hoses and belts. As a bonus I had to put a new A/C compressor and dryer on. I still need to have it charged. I think I will get another trip permit and drive it on the road and make sure...

    DIY Straight truck to Tractor?

Terryc If your truck has air brakes, and you remove the 24' box, you should consider that tractors when used without a trailer don't give full air pressure to the rear brakes. If you don't remove the box it won't matter. Good luck Kenn

    Frame Welding

Hot Rod I got all the parts painted and installed on the truck. I used an old air spring to make a rock guard and mounted it with a strap. After having the hitch and the tank back on the truck I think the tank can be filled from the back. I am now replacing air lines and hope to have the...

    Frame Welding

Hot rod, thanks for the info on the valve. This is the first one I have seen with the pressure relife valve in the bottom. My tank was built by manchester and it was built as a motor home tank for Country Coach in Oregon. I looked on their web site and they had a drawing showing the valve on...

    Frame Welding

Bob the jacks are made by Ram and I paid $108 each for them at Century Wheel and Rim in Willsonville Oregon. They are rated to stabilize 12,000 and lift 10,000. They have a drop leg with return spring and 2 speeds. I think they are cheap copies of the Bulldog Jacks. I can upgrade to 20K if...

    Frame Welding

The tag on my tank shows it holds 49.8 gallons and it is 18"x54". My tank came from an auction at Country Coach, they made large diesel pushers in Oregon until they went out of business last year. I don't know how large the tanks are on trucks (pick ups)that are powered by propane. My old...

    Frame Welding

LPG tank It took a few days and two trips to the steel store, but the LPG tank is now mounted. I will add a 1/4" x 3" rubber strip between the top of the tank and the cross members. I ended up with 17" of ground clearance. I will add a third cross member at the back and it will have the same...

offer fastavenger, thanks for the offer, I have already made a commitment on mine just waiting to pick it up so I won't use the warranty up while I build the motor home.

I am getting a 5500 onan that will run on propane. I bought a 49 gal tank and will mount it between the frame rails behind the rear axle. I made this decision befor the price of diesel went above $4.00 per gallon. Propane in my area is around $2.75 a gallon.

TC conversion to RV titling/licensing requirements by state

My plan is to build a motor home on the truck and use it to pull the race trailer. It will be overkill for sure. The trailer is 20' and is rated at 10K but weighs around 7K fully loaded. My race car is under 1,000 lbs and the rest is tools and spares. My old motor home does a good job of...

TC conversion to RV titling/licensing requirements by state

Oregon DMV I went to the Oregon DMV last week to get a trip permit. I was in and out in less than ten minutes with permit in hand. It cost $43.00 and is good for ten days. The next day I drove the truck to the shop and had the overhead service done. The engine is fine and I now feel better...

To vent or not to vent

Vents I have used my old motor home for 20 years and I can't imagine not having vents. My new motor home will be a 20' box with 5' bed above the cab. I plan to have an airconditioner in the center and one vent above the bed over the cab and another in the bathroom above the shower witch is in...

TC conversion to RV titling/licensing requirements by state

I moved to Oregon from California three years ago and I don't miss the Calif. DMV at all. I have registered several home built trailers and boats in Calif. and it seems as if the DMV employes must be reading from different books. When I got to Oregon I registered 8 vehicles within a few weeks...

    macerator systems

Dave your trailer looks great. I have been planning to build my motorhome with one waste tank in order to gain overall capacity. Do you sleep in the trailer at the races and have you used the it for more than a weekend? Just cureious how the single tank is working. It is nice to have a...

    macerator systems

I think I would do the black, grey and follow it up by running clean water down the drain for a few minutes. A big advantage is the size of the hose 1" compared to 3". I have used the old style for 20 years with no major problems and at a much lower cost. I think I will stick with the 3" for...

    macerator systems

They claim it is the most sanitary way to empty a holding tank. You leave the hose connected.

    macerator systems

Bob thanks a lot. I am thinking the cost of the macerator set up could be used on other things. I can make my dumping system so it could be changed at a later date if I felt the need.

    macerator systems

Has anyone used a macerator system on their holding tanks. I have never seen one other than in catalogs and they make them sound great. I would like to find someone that has used one for a while and find out the pros and cons.

Are you talking about a trailer with aluminum sides or some other material? If aluminum I think you will need to deal with some type of vertical suports.

Build Shop - where do you build?

I am building my motorhome in my home shop. The shop is 24' x 40' with the back 9' devided into two rooms. One room is for my noisy air compressor and storage. The other room, or area, is for my lathe and work benches. The shop door is 10' high and 12' wide with an overhead clearance of 11'...

    frp

Has anyone built a T/C using frp for the roof and siding? I plan to us use a product called Clad Tuff made by Fiber-Tech Industries. It is a fiberglass reinforced plywood that can be made as large as 120" x 58'. I plan to use bolts around the edges and glue on the steel tubing frame. I will...
