    45' moving van conversion

Everything is done by me, I have never hired anyone in my life and probably won't. Build my own pole barn, then build my own house, greenhouse and list will go on. Yes that does mean another build in the future, this time with a 5 ton or 2.5 ton military truck. Hopefully I can find one like I...

Weld box frame to chassis or U Bolt?

    You're welcome

    45' moving van conversion

Yep on the 6th would be a year, well we have been to Washington state again, finally moved last bit of our stuff here, bought another 20 acres, a couple backhoes working on a pole barn from drill stem pipe and few other odds and ends. Our rig decided on our last journey back from Washington...

    Fatbed on HDT

More of it, I had to move the muffler so it could fit. I just cut it off at the 90 and swiveled it down, then took the chrome 90 off muffler and U bolted it to the other 90. Lumber comes from the trees milled on our property and all fabricated with solar power from the system I built.

    Fatbed on HDT

Here is mine, it's not done as I am waiting on some left over pieces from a pole barn I am building from drill stem pipe. I used 3 inch channel iron for the framing, 6 inch channel iron to cap the ends off with, 3 inch channel iron welded to the frame of the bed then drilled holes in the chassis...

Weld box frame to chassis or U Bolt?

Wouldn't do either, U bolts aren't strong I would weld a bracket on the side of the chassis not on the flange, never weld on the flange. Then weld another bracket and bolt the two together or you can weld one bracket on the box and bolt it to the chassis going through the side not the top flange...

    Trouble with police?

Three years on the road and no problems here, then again I am registered in Montana. I agree with Ttnj remove the 5th wheel.

Haven't heard from you in a year, good to hear Covid-19 didn't get you. Nice looking it's moving around now, spend any nights anywhere in it yet?

Looks a lot cleaner and better than first pictures. Unless you plan on going with AGM's you better put the batteries outside in a place that won't eat up anything with hydrogen sulfide which is also explosive. How many AH's you plan on putting in? Problem with you already putting that diesel...

Wouldn't do the whole bottom I would save space for water and holding tanks unless you plan on using a portable toilet. ASME/DOT tanks I would use for propane tanks mounted to the underside and I would suggest a diesel heater for heat. Lastly there is a lot of real estate on your roof for plenty...

How well are your fabrication and welding skills? There is a lot of potential there, look for some trailer under boxes if you can't build your own. Cause paying for someone to custom build and ship something there is going to be expensive and might not always come out right. Here is my build...

Any solar panels on the roof of that rig? Looks like a lot of real estate waiting for some panels on that roof.

Nope and neither is the system it goes to. All together on 1.2 kw @ 24V with 440 AH of storage it ran $5k and that's me building the system myself. Unlike 99% of RV'ers with solar I can move my panels up to 50' from the rig to catch sunlight in partly shaded campgrounds. And I think I found a...

Thing with 5200 vs Dap 3.0 is 5200 will take more harsher environments and extremes and it acts as adhesive too not just a sealant. Seemed way you put in your words that this was first time thing to do such as the welding part is what I was gathering off of, though carry on.

Let's put it this way, for a foot of 4/0 marine wiring it's $13 a foot and I have about 20 feet in just the PV system

Love the work and ambition to improve and not play the victim or a pity party cause you have never done something. You dived deep in and got your hands dirty, experimented and learned from your mistakes. Not many I say that to. P.S. put down the caulking tube and grab some 5200 for those...

Depends do you have the money for RV parks to park such rig pulling a trailer, cause most campgrounds with a semi pulling a trailer won't fit such accommodations.I have years of experience traveling and learned from them. The mount the box on the chassis is the cheapest way, yields less room...

Less than 50°F hehe, been tweaking on mine and its been getting down to 0°F just haven't posted any pictures lately of wiring. You must be in a warm climate area that's not usually below 60°F. Just take your time a Buddy heater helps and it will come together. Surprised you didn't erase the...

Yeah never know when outside invaders want to come knocking though you are knocking on adding extra weight more than usual to the rig so I would be careful. Nothing can stop wood from rotting when you don't know you have a leak and that usually what causes all the destruction.

In simple terms don't use solid wire that is used in homes to wire the interior and such, it will break over time with vibrations in the rig and cause a fire or short out. Use stranded wire such as you find in vehicles and use marine stranded wire if possible for best results.

    45' moving van conversion

Don’t put Romex in only stranded wire, if you got extra money go with marine grade. Are you going with DC or AC or mix, how are you going to power up, generator, solar or plug into RV parks?

I suggest going with solar IMHO, and using the small genset as backup. How long you plan on going "off grid" when scooting around? Go look at Frankenstein on here, that's my build and might give you insight on solar. Crossed the US last month and only used the generator 3 times from Washington...
