Questions re a Class 7 Renegade on a FL 70 Freightliner Chassis.

Would you folks consider this rig sort of underpowered and overloaded as compared to a class 8 chassis?
Any comments on this principle?
Underpowered? Depends on what you're used too, but a 300HP Cat will get you where you want to go, slowing only for the steepest hills.
Overloaded? MAYBE, as the owner does not state the GVW. If it's 31-33,000# (which it likely is), no problem. That's pretty close to what you get when one axle is removed from a Class 8. BTW, as soon as the Class 8 axle is removed, it becomes a Class 7. Class is determined by weight rating only, not drivetrain. Anyway, if the GVW of the rig in question IS actually 26,000 (which I seriously doubt) it would be overloaded. Being that Renegade built it, it probably is spec'ed with the right suspension and axles for the application. They wouldn't have converted the truck if weren't. Renegade has a rputation to uphold, and insurance companies to keep happy.
I hope this helps you.

We have a FL70 with the 195 HP Cummins. My good friend has a FL70 with the 300hp Cat 6 speed, he hauls dumpsters wit hit full of scrap metal. That truck is most likely rated for 33,000 lbs. I know he has no problems pulling a load with it and loves his Cat motor. It's only 32' total length it's not that big a unit, as far as 40,000 towing, then you would be taxing that motor. IMHO

I am sure the rear 21,000 & the front is 12,000, that is how Chuck spec'd those FL70's back then.

And being a 26' motorhome box I would say he is not far off 26,000 lbs.

My M2 which is a 29' motorhome weights in dry at 26,785 lbs.

......300hp is a 3126 or C-7 just about maxed out....I believe 330 is the max in Fire and RV applications IIRC....I'd take it for a ride up a grade and see what it does before signing the papers....'course I'm used to 500 hp and 1620 grunt so I'm not a real good judge.....my 3125e is slow-but then again it is tuned down to 207 hp at 520# grunt.....geofkaye
