We are looking at purchasing a 2003 crew cab international 4300 to build into a toter home. The rear axle is 8 feet from the back of the cab. We have about 3 foot of frame left behind the axles. What all is involved in moving the axle back 3 feet? Also will 19.5's fit on these trucks?

Moving the axle back is not a huge deal. Any truck repair shop, truck equipment shop (one that sells/installs decks, boxes, etc) or frame shop should be able to do it. Basically disconnect all hoses and wires from axle/suspension, slide it back to where you want it, drill new holes, bolt it down, extend hoses/wires/driveline and reconnect.

As far as 19.5inch wheels, only the dealer could tell you as it all depends on how the truck was speced when it was built.

Are you sure you need to move the axle back? Lots of the HDT crowd (Heavy Duty Truck, the guys that use hdt's to pull their 5th wheel campers) have their 5th wheel hitches mounted well back from the rear axle. They say they like it better that way. Just wondering why you would need to move your axle back?

Just find a truck with the wheel and tire size you want to run and measure them. Then compare to your current tire/wheel combo and see if it will fit. My guess is no problems, but some measurements can confirm.

re:
19.5 tires and wheels

Yes, they will fit... with enough money.
Yes, for the right price, you can mount the whole shootin' match on a pogo stick.

Why change the factory-engineered safety? Are you a test-pilot?
