My wife bought a new GMC/4500 with crewcab "pickup" with 5th wheel to tow her 32' horse trailer with living quarters. It needs some more power on grades. Any suggestions regarding electronic plug-in units that are supposed to regulate fuel flow and such? The Banks unit is about $800.00. Any other resources or knowledge?

Thanks..

One thing you will want to do FOR SURE is to put in a pyrometer, because if you try to get much more power out of that Duramax the EGT WILL go up. How much it goes up is what you(or your wife) want to monitor. I myself would not try for much more power pulling that kind of load. In MY opinion, a heavier truck (like a 6500 w/ a CAT 250HP engine and gobs of torque) would have been the right choice for the trailer in question.

Mordy,
Take a look at Hyper-Tech.com. They make a unit that you can plug into your trucks computer port and upgrade things like HP or Torque as well as monitor temp.

May also try Edge, they have a module with a monitor so all the gauges are in one spot. Just not sure if they work on the heavier trucks.

After reading the posts here I ordered the Hyper-Tech to use on my Powerstroke 7.3l engine. Wow,what a difference! The biggest problem I've had is trying to tow a trailer with two large Jeeps on it up over the Eisenhower Pass and also the Vail Pass on I-70 west of Denver when the outside air is over 90 degrees. This should really help. Thanks for the advice!

Hey Danno-
Not to nag, but you might want to get a pyrometer to monitor your EGT; that is unless you've already got one......
Happy truckin'!
