I got my Volvo 610 wired up to supply all signals and voltages (except the backup light) to the RV. Tested it this weekend and it works. Turn signals flash while the brakes are applied. Flashers work. Many thanks to Dave (Oldphoneman) for his help.

The central item in this design is the Hoppy Power Taillight Converter model 46255. Not all taillight converters will work but this one does. Picked it up at Pep Boys for $39.95.

I don't have a Volvo puller,yet,but I'm hooked.
I will certainly look hard at Larry's next one.
This info will be handy..
BTW..I'm using a "tailight convertor" on my dually to flash the rear fender lights and they also act as brake lights..and of course running lights..Got it at Camping World..
Thanks again

So why do we need this converter?....could this be for the tail lights on a vehicle with a multiple system where the turn signal and stop light are the same bulb?...Or have I missed something here.....like the old yellow-brown-green-white ground boat trailer lite system?....geof

Hi geof,

The class 8 tractors (and some foreign cars) have separate bulbs (filaments) and separate circuits for brakes and turn signals. RVs use the same bulb and filament. You can't simply tie the two together without causing undesirable conseqences back at the tractor (such as, illuminating the turn signals when the brakes are applied). A simple diode "OR" gate won't work either because the turn signal would stop flashing when the brakes are applied.
