Good morning all:

Have a quote to put a 16 foot box on my Volvo 770 for slightly less than $16,000 dollars. This is a 2 inch square side wall frames, 3 inch floor and 4 inch on the ceiling. The rationale behind the sizes is to have room for foam in each of those locations. It includes installing 3 dual pane windows and a door, cutting out the entrance to the rear of the 770, accordion foam on the junction. It also includes a 4 foot under the floor of the 16 foot box, a "basement" for the holding tanks etc behind the rear wheels.

How does that cost compare to others?

Thanks

Chuck

1000 dollars a foot? windows and doors included? Plus cutting out your cab/box entrance? Sounds like a great deal to me.

I'd have him get started asap before he changes his mind.

Whose doing it? Has he done a Volvo before? Just wondering who else is up in this region (I'm in Fargo)

....hell yes! go for it!.....even I can't come that close. [he doesn't know the value of his own labor]-grab up on that deal!....BUT hold the cash for the end of the job-just in case he tries to "up" you some. Of Course, you will get it written out....it should include the outside aluminum- .060- with a insulator between the steel and aluminum and stainless screws-not galvanized...corners are to be glued on with a mastic of your choice-before being screwed on- also a 30ga. a one piece aluminum roof-again glued on to 16" centers-with an insulator between the steel and roofing......walls,ceiling and floor need to be 16" on center....I'd specify the 23/32 Ameri-tec flooring with the 50 year warranty. Have the underside of the flooring primed with a cost of truck bed coating also-so all you have to do is spray the seams from the underside-quick and easy that way....make sure all the steel is painted-brushed with a primer and a top coat of Rust-o-leum....after cleaning with a solvent....and all the welds chipped/wire brushed and painted....now, your are talking a deal!....geofkaye

Cool. You know there's a shop in Rochester that builds the box too. I can find out his contact info if you want to see how he would compare. You've got my email, just send me a message and I can get it and reply if you want. He did the boxes for Tony Desnick back when he was building coaches.

BOb86ZZ4...WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO TONY DESNICK ANYWAY?....haven't seen him around or heard from him in a year or two?...LMK...geofkaye

He got a job in Seatle. Moved there for about a year. Then decided to come back to MN. Started working for a architecture firm here in Mpls. He's an architect too. So, he's staying busy doing that and let the custom coach business go into hibernation. He lives about a mile from me and I see him and talk to him once in awhile.

....Tony built a good coach on the utilitarian side of things-which is what I do....but that industry is DOA now....I do uplifting and a lot of other things to keep busy so I don't walk the floor and drive myself nuts.....[this retirement thing is over rated-I'm retiring again in December from another career] Next life, I'm coming back as a one armed bricklayer....been told they are busy all the time. ;&gt
