    Back to Fuel Mileage

Does anyone have any experience with this........if you had two identical medium duty trucks, towing light (9000 to 14,000 pounds on average), would you see any real world savings in fuel with a 6.7 Cummins 300 h.p./750 torque versus the 8.3 325/1000?

    MDT for RV Hauling

Ya, if a guy were to go new HDT, those new Volvo XE/Mack Super Econodyne packages are getting awesome fuel mileage.

    MDT for RV Hauling

Oh, ok. There was/is a gentleman in the Sault that was pulling his rv with a little 4000 series International, same colour as that. But I haven't seen it around lately. So some guys are pulling 10 mpg with a HDT? I wasn't sure how good you could get with proper gearing, single axle, etc. I've...

    Small Toterhomes

I want to thank you all. This site is great. I've already got a ton of info and resources! Ok Gordy, I know what you mean now. What I was thinking, was I've seen people get denied insurance after a fire because they found an appliance that wasn't stamped CSA Approved. Thanks for the links Bob.

    Small Toterhomes

Wow! Those are nice Hot rod. And the size is more scaled to what would fit in my application. For those prices, I can't believe I didn't look into this before I bought a pickup. Now I'm depressed.

Ha, small world Coal. I've seen that Volvo in town. Is that the same guy that used to have the little International that was the same colour? Nice trucks. Yes, I found that out with my Powerstroke. EGR coolers, oil coolers, headgaskets, pinion seals, axle seals. You get no life out of tires...

Thanks Hot Rod. So you have about 15 feet of frame behind the cab? What do you have for power in your Top Kick and what kind of fuel mileage have you seen so far? And you are right 175 grand is way out of the question for this job.

    MDT for RV Hauling

BlizzardND, thanks for the info. I started looking at some of the class 8 threads to see some fuel mileages. Looks like the 7's is common? I once delivered a 43 foot KZ Inferno tri-axle toy hauler, every available option. Got to the dealer and the salesman tells me a 56 year old guy bought it...

    Small Toterhomes

Thanks Gordy, I will check them out. I never even thought of the Canadian standards. good point, because I've seen people loose out on insurance because of that. Thanks.

    MDT for RV Hauling

Ya, I've had some trips "white knuckling" at 50 mph weaving like I'm drunk, people giving me the finger, LOL. And I've driven transport for 25 years on and off road, so it's not lack of ability. These new toyhaulers have far surpassed 350/3500 pickups. Likely why my insurance is so astronomical...

    Small Toterhomes

Hello All. I'm kinda uneducated on Toterhomes. I am familiar with Renegade, but don't know who all makes them. Can I get some links to the companies that make small single axle toters to pull an RV type trailer. Looking for something with bathroom/shower, cooking facilities and gen set...

    MDT for RV Hauling

CNG is not readily available yet in my travels, but I agree with you. It looks like it will have a big future. A couple big carriers in Quebec have just invested in CNG class 8 tractors and are setting up distribution centres. But not enough YET. The guys hauling cars seem to be doing good. I...

    MDT for RV Hauling

By the Sault On./MI. border Coal. Low mileage used would probably be the way to go. Like BlizzardND said, not much more than another new pickup. Don't want to get too long either as you need the manueverability. Most factories just dump the trailers out in tight rows in farm fields. And most...

    MDT for RV Hauling

At the risk of going off the deep end....on average what do new Toterhomes cost? I know it all varies, but something livable not overly fancy.

    MDT for RV Hauling

Thanks guys. I should have singled out my highway tractor and kept it. But too late now. I know a class 8 would be more reliable, but I'm trying to get an idea on the difference in fuel mileage, if the medium would be any better? I know I could have gotten 7 to 8 mpg with my 525 h.p. tractor...

    MDT for RV Hauling

Hello All. Just joined and looking for some feedback. I sold my class 8 tractor and started delivering new RV trailers with my F-350 pickup. But this pickup, as well as past other brands, is not proving reliable under the mileages I am putting on it. So I am looking at building a new medium duty...
