How thick should the concrete be?

I just finished pouring the floor for my Conversion parking canope. We excavated 12" of dirt & clay, layed a crushed rock base (a couple of inches) then put in 4" of sand. We then layed in 1/2" re-bar on a 24" grid and poured 6" to 7" of 4000 test concrete with fiber added. I've let it cure for...

    generator hrs

As to your generator question, . . . I assume it's a diesel, in which case 5000 hours may or may not be a negative. As opposed to a vehicle engine, . . .the gen set runs at a constant speed (1800 RPM) which is a positive, the elect load varies which will work the unit harder if heavily loaded...

    12 volt generator?

Your idea sounds good. Also, Honda & Yamaha both make inverter-generators that have a load sensing module. They run a little above idle under light loading and increase RPM as the load becomes heavier. You might want to consider one of these as they're designed from the ground - up for inverter...

    built in air conditioner.

Harley, I just happen to have a new (never installed) Coleman basement air/heat pump, complete with integrated thermostat & wiring harness. I think it's a 30,000 btu unit but I would need to look at the spec plate to verify. I had purchased 3 years ago with intentions of installing in an MCI-9...

    frame paint???

I would agree, . .zinc chromate is fantastic, . . .however, . . .last I knew the EPA killed it, . .or made the manufacturers change the formula, . . probably not as good as the old stuff. Damn gov't screwed up toilets, light bulbs, gas (ethanol), and probably 27 other things that I can't think...

    Building T/C for Fuel Ecomomy

Several diesel truck sites have discussions on propane injection, . . .I know of a couple of farmers that are using this on their tractors. They all note better performance & better (combined) fuel economy. Just off hand I don't remember which sites I was browsing however, you might Google...

    Door seal

If you want a fail safe seal btwn the boot & the cab/motorhome body, use some urthane windshield adhesive to glue the boot in. . . . just don't ever plan on taking it loose later on.

Build Shop - where do you build?

When I did my first bus conversion (30 years ago) I made a deal with an RV repair facility to "borrow" one of their stalls in the winter months, in exchange for labor during their busy season. (I'm also half-assed inclined towards welding, metalworking, woodworking, mechanical, etc) I worked...

    Silkaflex 252

The outer skins on my truck are .050 alum & originally installed with 3M VHB bonding tape with no screws or rivits.. Before I started on the interior, I had a couple seams come loose. I bought a pneumatic calk gun & 18 tubes of sikaflex 262 and forced it betweeen the sides of the (structure)...

    Insurance

I've also got St Farm, . . .my agent didn't have any problem with the underwriting dept, . . .but also have 4 cars, 2 pick-ups, a motorcycle & 2 houses with them so they probably didn't want me to go elswhere

High Amperage 12 volt runs ???

The generator starter shouldn't pull over 100Amps. Charge amprage from the 12V generator alternator will likely be in the 20 to 25 Amp range (max). You can get an induction amp meter Alter Systems On-line Shop that you can temporarily hold on top of the wire while the gen is cranking, to get an...

    Toterhome electrical info needed

From the way you're describing your load situation, you might want to consider two 1500or 2000 watt inverters, . . .one on each 120V leg. Then you would have enough AC power to run everything (and future everything as well) It's not advisable to run 2 roof AC's or other high wattage components...

High Amperage 12 volt runs ???

Yup, . . .fuse (or install a breaker) on everything (where practical) as you never know where those little electrical gremlins are going to appear - or when. All it takes is a mis-placed staple or screw to cause a short, or worse, a fire. Battery isolators are ok however a relay has some...

    A/c Mod

Suggest you install a separate box between the main breaker box and your rear A/C unit. then equip that box with a "transfer switch" rated at 20amps. A transfer switch is basically a double pole, double throw switch. You then feed one side of the transfer switch from the main breaker box, and...

    Stealth Camper Build Thread

Actually, I built one from an 8 X 22' enclosed with ramp door. I insulated the walls & roof, wired it for 110V AC with 30 amp RV service, 12V lights, installed an 18" awning, checkerboard tile flooring, Velcro'd in a screen rear door opening & side door. It makes a nice weekend camper for me &...

Just a suggestion,...why don't you leave the 12V cig lighter recepticles & just add the Anderson Power Pole plugs to the same box. Then you will be able to power up just about any 12V accessory that comes along. If you are having a problem with the length of the cig recepticles, You might look...

    Is 170 milliamps a lot?

Also, be aware that most LED's don't project light very far even though they appear very bright when you look at them. However, if what you have is a true LED backup light, it should do what you want. Let us know your opinion when you get it set up.
