    Been awhile

Hi Gene, great to hear from you. Huge changes for you guys. You're going to full time then? If I remember correctly you have a Pony Express garage coach? Still stash a Smart car in the back? Are you going to have a home base somewhere? I'm going to send you a private message.

    United specialties parts

I'm sure you know that United Specialties has been out of business for some time. I'd check with NRC or Showhauler. I think they build similar to United Specialties. I bet they could help you out.

B plates to RV plates for my Jeep gladiator

Aha, I see. Maybe there is some other option? What state are you in? When I bought my conversion van the state tried to force weighted truck plates on me because it's on a 3500 (1 ton) chassis. I really didn't want truck plates on it because then I couldn't drive it on parkways. Also truck...

B plates to RV plates for my Jeep gladiator

I would think it would have to have the necessary items installed to qualify as an RV? Things like heating/ac separate from the engine, potable water supply, propane, toilet, etc.... It varies from state to state. Pretty sure there's no way you're going to be able to get RV plates on it. Why do...

    Frankenstein

I think it's cool. Tons of work. Impossible for a guy like me with almost no skills. Do you flat tow the Subby?

RV 5th wheel vs. Class 8

One of the biggest concerns I think as far as using the truck to pull your camper is that you would want an air hitch and also one that articulates side to side. Commercial king pin hitch (as you know) only hinges fore/aft. They can tear up a recreational camper trailer when you are getting into...

RV 5th wheel vs. Class 8

There is also a guy using his commercial tractor to pull a gooseneck trailer for recreation. At least I think it's a gooseneck. Search the Escapees for Jeff Bayer or Jeff Beyer? He knows a lot about how you take care of all the legal requirements. I think he treats his recreational trailer as if...

RV 5th wheel vs. Class 8

I think there is somebody doing that. Seem to me I saw some posts about it over at the Escapees HDT forum: HDT - Escapees Discussion Forum

Great that you're able to get it out on the road! Congratulations. That was a LOT of work.

Truck conversion meet and greet rally

Looks like the North Carolina State Fairgrounds has lots of camping. I don't know anything about the Raleigh, NC, area. https://www.ncstatefair.org/accommodations.htm

Truck conversion meet and greet rally

No matter what we do, there are certainly going to be people that have date conflicts. Just no way around that. I think if we find a good location that has lots of space we are covered if we have a large turnout. I'd guess the first annual will not have a huge turnout. The HDT Rally has gotten...

March rules out a run for me. No way the roads are clear enough up here.

Truck conversion meet and greet rally

About the soonest we can trust the roads to be clear of ice and salt is last week in April. That's in Minnesota you guys. So, I don't usually get my rig out of the shop until the beginning of May. I would guess we're more likely to be able to get a bunch of sites before schools get out for...

Towing a Jeep behind 5th Wheel

I know a few people that have flat towed a vehicle behind their 5th wheel. They all don't recommend it. Much better to build a deck on the truck and put whatever you want up there.

Towing a Jeep behind 5th Wheel

Pretty unlikely that your Montana 5th wheel has a strong enough frame to add the weight towing the Jeep.

Side Marker/Turn Signals - the lighting fetish continues

Not sure which one you're thinking about. That link brings up a whole page with lots of different lights. At least for me it did. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Side Marker/Turn Signals - the lighting fetish continues

There you can see the light on the bottom step. They seem to work well. When I put on the turn signal cars get the heck outa the way.

    Chariot 40,000 pound pintle

Mine came with a hitch very similar to the one in your picture above. The 2 5/16th inch ball is bolted and welded onto mine. I wanted to be able to pull a trailer with a 2" ball. And I wanted to be able to use a bike rack that slides into a 2" square tube receiver. My neighbor is a retired...
