    Question .....Towing

Learn something new everyday ! I have never seen a Smart car flat towed before so I "assumed" that couldn't be done. Of course that would defeat the purpose of buying a car small enough to be hauled on the truck bed sideways or in the "garage" wouldn't it ? I suppose it all boils down to what...

    Question .....Towing

Bushpilot , I flat tow my Grand Cherokee behind my motorhome with the same type towbar system. Really easy to use. However, Gene has a different problem since I don't think a Smart car can be flat towed. MMM

    Suggestions on Interior Walls

No I did not use the FRP corner trim. Didn't like the looks of it. The ceiling/corners will be trimmed in red oak and stained to match the cabinets. I did use the FRP trim between the ceiling sheets. (seen in photo's). MMM

    Question .....Towing

Gene, I had never seen one of those "Idaho Totes" before. It certainly would be easier to back. A long wheelbase truck and a short trailer could be tricky to back in a tight space. On the other hand, and enclosed trailer gives you lots more storage space and keeps your vehicle out of the...

    Suggestions on Interior Walls

Before I went with the FRP, I obtained several samples from a local upholstery supplier. They had vinyl, cloth and foam backed materials of all kinds. They also stocked the materials needed to install it. Just another option. Michael

Rob, Would love to have you come by and visit when your in the area. That's a slick old Mack you have there. That would be a nice show truck with a little paint and chrome. With that wheelbase it would make a great motorhome chassis as well. Drove an old B61 for Farmers COOP for a couple of...

    Suggestions on Interior Walls

To reduce the temp transfer thru the studs I lined the inside of mine with 17/32 plywood. I then glued the FRP to that. I used it on the entire interior. FRP is easy to clean, durable and does not absorb odors like some materials. I guess it all depends on how you are going to use it and what you...

Welcome aboard Rob ! With your background you should have no problems building that "R" model. Those V-8 Macks have a sound all there own. Of course if it has the old camel back suspension that will have to go. Those things will beat you to death. I have seen a couple of "R" models converted as...

What are the best slides to use

Hotrod, I did a test with silkaflex 252 on some test panels and was able to pull them apart after they cured for several days.( followed the directions to the letter) I have seen several trailers with the sides peeled open so I used shaveable rivets instead. I have never used the 3M tape. If...

What are the best slides to use

Hotrod I am building toter similar to what you describe. I am installing two opposing Liftco slides on my 12" box. Folks at Liftco were good to deal with. I have installed one side and am ready to enclose it as soon as I have time. Look under the thread "Installing the box" to get an idea how...

    Frame Welding

The wife sleeps/ watches TV in the bedroom while we're going down the road. Has not said anything about noise or heat so it must be good. The coach has what they call Over the road air. Designed to keep 52 people cool in 100 degree weather and it works great. The drawback is its takes 30 HP to...

    Frame Welding

Kenn, That's amazing fuel mileage. Is your engine electric or manual? I don't think my old manual 425 Cat will come close to that. How did your sound deadening/insulation in the cab perform? I haven't bought any for mine yet and am still looking at the different types. I would like to make it as...

    Frame Welding

The motorhome has four 8D agm batteries and two 4000 watt inverters with an auto generator start feature. The batteries get low and the generator starts, recharges and shuts off automatically. We ran for almost a week before the generator ever started. The batteries are huge, weigh 135# each. I...

    slide out

Yes those are Liftco slide assy's. Touchless floor models. As for storage compartment doors, I could not find any that I liked so I built my own. Kenn's build has some really nice rollup doors I would have used if I had enough room to put them in. MMM

    Frame Welding

Kenn Your truck is really looking good. Plumbing and electrical looks very well thought out and executed. Haven't done much to mine the last few months. After a series of tornados last year I got busy building a few steel buildings in the area and just haven't had any spare time. Also, wife...

    Installing the Box

Dave Did not use any sealant on the seams. The alum sheets have a two inch overlap and with the rivets on 4" centers they are pretty tight. The cast alum. corner caps are sealed with silicone and attached with screws. The alum top trim is sealed with self leveling silicone roof sealer purchased...

Slideout and floor installed Haven't worked on the toter much the last few months. Wife convinced me we needed a larger motorhome for longer trips so we now have a older Prevost Marathon for trips longer than our normal weekend jaunts. MMM

    Installing the Box

Dave, I was planning on using Silkaflex-252 to bond the .040 alum to the 2" tubing. However, after doing two test strips and following the manufacture's instructions to the letter, I was still able to pull the alum from the tubing after 72 hours cure time. Also, I have seen two "store bought"...

    Installing the Box

Sorry for the delay in responding. Was out of town. The trim (stainless and alum) on the box was purchased from Frank's Custom Trailers in Okla City where I purchased my trailer. I wanted the truck and trailer to match. Frank's does trailer repair as well as sales. Great people to deal with if...
