Thanks, Kevin! I used a polarizing filter. If your camera has an "aperture priority" mode, you can select a narrow aperture setting (I probably used F8 in this pic) to get a greater depth of field.

    Box Canyon Ice Climbing

Years ago, Ouray was dead in the winter. A few hot springs soakers, but only one restaurant was open in town. Then the town built the Ouray Ice Park up the Box Canyon. HUGE economic shot in the arm.

    Enginner Mtn

This trail is one of the best wildflower hikes in SW Colorado around the end of July or the first week in August. The view from the top of the mtn is pretty sweet as well.

Columbine Pass looking west to Animas River

This is the view down the Needle Creek drainage that you hike up to get to Columbine Pass. At the pass you drop down Johnson Creek to Vallecito Creek. Prime Weminuche Wilderness.

    Red Creek fire, June 2010

A lightning-caused fire erupted in the Red Creek drainage back in June. As the crow flies, it's 2.5 miles from my house. After living thru the Missionary Ridge Fire in 2002, we were a little anxious about this one. News reports were pretty crappy, so I decided to hike to the fire to see for...

    Vallecito Creek in the winter

This is one of our favorite "neighborhood" places to snowshoe in the winter and hike in the summer. Close and beautiful.

Amanita Muscaria. Don't be eating that thang! Around these parts, amanitas indicate the possible presence of Boletus Edulis, an awesome edible.

This is a view of the South Gap, a major route in and out of Chaco Canyon proper. The overhang provided some much needed relief from the sun on a 90+ degree day.

Thanks, ski! We hadn't been for 10 years, and were reminded how much we love the place. We're planning another trip before winter, preferably on a new moon. There's a cool astronomy program by the visitor's center Tuesday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Several big telescopes are set up and a...

Thanks, Stew! Initially, I shot the doorways from the opposite direction. Then I walked through 'em and saw the glow that the setting sun was imparting.

Wall detail on the north side of Tsin Kletzin. This is a very well-preserved example of the "McElmo" style of masonry from around 1110 A.D.
