    Generator options, need help.

Don't apologize, start a new thread. In any case, what stops you from increasing the size of the muffler? Simple solution.

Maybe they were thinking steel or aluminum skins versus laminated panels weighing what those weigh? What are you thinking of doing?

    starting to build motorhome

Had it been me, I likely would have tried a urethane-type construction adhesive. That, or some kind of long-setting epoxy. However, coming up with a gun-type application method for the epoxy becomes more difficult, which probably leaves the user to resort to a brush-type application method...

I added an APU to the Moby build. Maybe one of these will wok for you. Here's a link: http://www.truckconversion.net/forums/f104/mobys-electrical-7167/

    Grande Rojo upgrade

Hi Doc, Did you cut between cab and box? And if yes, what did you do with respect to sealing it? I wonder because this thought has been coming to the fore with the Moby project.

    Frame Welding

While it costs considerably more, rather than use any silicone type product for the seal, I would opt for urethane body seam sealer instead. Source it at any paint and body supply place. Ask for seam seller. Use it in a caulk gun, pay a lot more, low to mid $20s, and get less but believe me...

I'm considering this ATS301 automatic 30A transfer switch. Any thoughts? PPS Automatic Line/Generator Switches What should I look for in a transfer switch?

    Moby's electrical

OK, because I didn't want to swipe the Intellipower converter from my workshop (too useful for charging batteries using my DC-only chargers), I purchased another. I bought this one this morning for $165 to include shipping. It's reputed to be new and unopened - we'll see. Progressive Dynamics...

What's the plan for finishing/protecting the exterior (corner) edges?

    Moby's electrical

OK, here's what I think you've said. 1. Truck - install something like this:   The only problem is, the ones I've found have twist-lock connectors instead of two blades and a round prong. I have, however, found a photo of a hatch with a pigtail, e.g. a male connector on a segment of 10/3 like...

    Moby's electrical

So you have a 30A female at the campground, or anywhere you plug in for shore power, right? The extension cord is female on one end and male on the other, does this mean the truck has a plug, which is male (brass bits exposed)? Is it the same, or is the truck typically equipped with a twist...

    Moby's electrical

I'm not locked into anything, which is why I'm asking. Let's nail down some further details. First, 12V lighting sounds smart because I believe you when you say I'll need to see when the APU isn't powered up and the truck isn't on shore power. What's the recommended source for 12V LED lighting...

    Moby's electrical

Hi Don, Yes, I am planning on using the truck for model events which nearly exactly match the profile for attending a race and parking in the infield sans hook ups. Anyway, I saw this response last night and mulled it overnight (trying to make sense of it). Basically, since I have four type-31...

    Moby's electrical

Hi Don, Good morning. I just had a late breakfast and am now enjoying a cup of java and because I'm bored with Sunday AM news spending so much time on the Weiner race for NY City mayor, I turned to my computer to check my email, instead. Anyway, I hope you too are having a pleasant morning...

UPDATE: We're still busy working on the Moby project. We're finally about ready to fire up the APU generator for the first time come Monday - in fact, Maggie has signed off on the project (photo). The other photo is of the panel, which I wired the generator to (for the 8 circuits we'll have...

TV, internet, backup cameras, and other stuff

Aha, lateral thinking! Lynn has a smart phone and we have been discussing buying a hot spot we can activate as needed, e.g. by the month. Whose do you use? Anyway, if it were up to you, which of the two Garmin GPS units would you pick? Morever, why?

TV, internet, backup cameras, and other stuff

Other than in the Bonanza (our airplane) I've managed my whole life without a GPS. However, driving Moby is more challenging and issues I've never had to consider crop up, e.g. vertical clearance. Anyway, the database goodies like towing and repair are the attraction for the big-rig version and...

TV, internet, backup cameras, and other stuff

OK, so I'm at the point where I am contemplating electronics for Moby. 1. A dedicated GPS instead of a cell-phone. I like these two from Garmin. Dedicated for RVs - RV 760LMT: http://tinyurl.com/kfqpwqw Dedicated for Over the road truckers - dēzl™ 760LMT: http://tinyurl.com/khc7qcz Basically...

    Switching to LED ceiling lights.

Surely the 'fix' is to either replace the bulb or the fixture, right? Anyway, thanks for the heads up on a possible problem. My test will involve scanning the channels without the lights being on, and then checking afterwards.

    Meet Moby

It's that time again - here's an update: The APU is mostly installed. Mostly because what was delivered was a jig saw puzzle of parts. Here's the background. I'd been checking on Craig's List for a diesel generator because I was leery of toting a lot of gasoline for the Honda. I'd seen one a...

    Switching to LED ceiling lights.

When you are speaking about color temperature, you should know lights are specced in terms of degrees Kelvin. Thus, 2800 degrees is a warm white, roughly in accord with an incandescent bulb. 3200 degrees is a halogen, which is a little bit whiter but still 'warm' in appearance, e.g. yellow-ish...

    intermittent water pump

I know this thread is old but I am at the point of shelling out shekels (Dollars, really) for a pump for the potable water supply, e.g. showers, washing hands, etc. I was thinking of a Remco 12V variable speed RV water pump ~ $200 for the 318 gph model. Is this the good stuff, or is there...

    Fittings for potable water tank

Are the fittings molded-in, or are they a bulkhead type fitting? E.g. bore a hole, clean the flashing, and screw the pieces together with a gasket in between.
