    Entry door

Dragonslayer140, I forgot to mention, cheaper is not so much the criteria for the door though it is a consideration. Basically, I want the better mousetrap and I remain unconvinced an RV door is it. For example, here's what I've learned about mobile home doors. You can enter if you have a...

    Entry door

The reason for the deadbolt and key is simply to avoid dealing with a knob, which sticks out, e.g. hanging in the breeze as I drive down the road. A closer might be a good idea, I agree. Anyway, I am not locked into doing this with a house door, it's why I asked. After all, I have the receipt...

    Entry door

I'm door shopping for Moby's entry door. I bought one of these for the partition separating the bathroom from the rest of the box. http://tinyurl.com/clhsdb7 However, the more I look at it it, the more I think one of these prehung door units would be quite suitable for an entry door as well...

    Meet Moby

Back to things related to conversions, I've begun shelling out hard earned shekels for the bits required to make Moby into what I need. E.g. doors, shower stall, and some lumber. Been busy planning out what I will do. This is fun!

    Murphy beds

A mechanism to take a bed up to the ceiling seems complicated while the Murphy bed seems straightforward and simple. The benfit of not taking up floorspace is offset by complexity and reduced headroom. Anyway, I was impressed by the short video of the Murphy bed mechanism on the Rocker site...

    Murphy beds

Thanks for the tip on rockler. Never heard of them before. Volvoman, folds up. Hmmm, never heard of one going to the ceiling.

    Meet Moby

Guidelines are OK with me. A prudent fellow will follow them. However, I disagree completely with them being forced on folks. If I'm determined to go to Hell in a handbasket, it's my business and nobody else's. The problem, as I see it, arises when folks think they know better what's best for...

    Potable water holding tank

Good info. I haven't tried levelling side-to-side with the tag axle using 2x12 boards to shim a wheel (yet) but I will because I'm curious why it wouldn't work.

    Meet Moby

We face the same issues with airplanes. I'm not allowed to install a modern autopilot in my 1954 Bonanza. Instead, I have to install one designed in the 1950 or 60s because those are the units the airplanes were certified with back in the day. Hence, I have an option of spending $15,000 for a...

    Meet Moby

If anyone is curious, I'll save you the trouble of joining just to read the NFPA 1192 regs. NFPA 1192: Standard on Recreational Vehicles On page 1192-5 they basically state the regs apply to new construction recreational vehicles manufactured after Sept 2011. Since my truck is a 2001 and I'm...

    Meet Moby

It's better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. It's why I hesitate to grant veto power to a bureaucrat. Anyway, while I too am an engineer, some of the best engineers I've met didn't have a degree but relied instead on a modicum of common sense and experience, which is a tough combo...

    Meet Moby

In that case you may as well draw plans, get an engineer to certify them, and then pull a permit. They're funny about wanting everything done in the proper order, don't you know?

    Potable water holding tank

Quiet frankly, I don't have a clue of the ideal fore-aft balance for a such a truck. If it were a sports car, for example, I'd be shooting for a 50/50 weight distribution. However, it's not and thus, I'm rather more interested in achieving a somewhat balanced side-to-side loading. Meanwhile, I'm...

Do those codes apply to a motorhome? Something to think about regardless, thanks for the heads up!

    Potable water holding tank

You're 100% right . . . my fat ass won't be under there without a jack stand! Anyway, you're make my point, I can always decide to remove it later - but for now - building and planning around it (especially considering how lightly loaded the truck will be) makes leaving it seem like a no brainer.

    Potable water holding tank

Yes, locating the water tank above the shower is largely driven by consideration of the reduced 'basement' cube available in my particular truck (due to an auxiliary axle). While an obvious concern centers on the 1000 pounds of mass (95 gallons plus tank and structure) mounted high, e.g. posing...

    Meet Moby

My plans, as I am wont to do, involve keeping it simple. In this case, an open plan largely consisting of a multipurpose room instead one compartmentalized with single purpose rooms. For example, vice the sleeping arrangements. I cannot under any circumstances foresee building a dedicated...

    Murphy beds

I'm a make it only if I can't buy it kind of guy. Since no motor home meets my ideals and budget, I'm making. Since I'd rather not take time to make a Murphy bed mechanism if I can buy a perfectly suitable one off the shelf, and I've found this one, before I purchase it, does anybody know of...

    Potable water holding tank

Gravity feed potable water holding tank Potable water holding tanks seem to always be found beneath the truck. This means using a pump to move the water around to where you need it. I'm wondering about using gravity instead. Does anybody have any experience with a water tank mounted high in the...

Looking for an LP tank for my conversion - FL

I spoke with Leo, nice fellow. $250 for a 60 gallon tank with brackets seems fair. However, adding in $150 for freight and another $100 to have someone certify the tank is empty so it can be shipped ups the price to 500 bucks, which is a bit more than I want to spend. It would be great if...

    20KW generator anyone?

LP tanks are pricey. I've not given up on the idea but a 40-gallon gas tank is easy to find and plumb into my existing 6.5KW Honda. The downside to gasoline is storage because it turns into varnish eventually. Anyway, until a cheap propane tank becomes available, this idea goes on the back burner.

Marketing guys, give 'em an inch and they take a foot. My box measures out to 23' inside . . . but it's a 24' box according to the literature - go figure! I'm not planning on a pass through between the sleeper and the box. Moreover, I am thinking of remodeling the sleeper into an office. This...

    Murphy's Law Motorsports Toy hauler

Your find is remarkably similar to mine in respect to miles, rebuilt engine, and box size. The only significant difference is mine has an auxilliary axle, which is of little use to me and will stay stowed forever because I doubt I ever load Moby sufficiently to justify lowering the axle. In...

What engines in those Schwan's trucks? Any 350 Chevy size? Would be interesting to outfit my step van with propane too.
