    Wall covering fabric and installation.

Another point of view: The front wall of my box catches the most wind and therefore is the coldest and noisiest. So here is how I treated it: 1) one layer of carpet padding 2) one layer of quilt batting 3) matching fabric and upholstery tacks from hobby lobby It goes up (and down) real easy...

Fire damaged Class C Winnebago on ebay. What a mess.

Pull one of the zeros off the price, remove the RV box, put a used box on it, then sell it as a delivery box truck. Take it from my experience, once you have a fire, the electrical wiring is near hopeless. I wouldn't touch that box for free. Been there, done that, had T-shirts made. Doc Weaver

Building a living quarters inside a FRP panel box truck?

Tim I can't answer all your questions, but I will tell you what I did. 1) What framing construction is recommended for placing interior walls? <span class="ev_code_RED">Mine was an aluminum box so I will defer</span> 2) What material should be used for interior wall? <span...

Box truck conversion to RV. Cab to box connection?

We used a sawzall and a die grinder (after removing the seats and so forth). then I contacted uni-grip and bought the accordion seal from them. After dry fitting the seal, I used some weather strip adhesive to make it air tight. be sure that while dry fitting, you smooth out any hard...

    Howdy!! I need some recommendations....

I'm still trying to get an accurate MPG, but driving style has much to do with MPG. If I set the cruise at 65mph, I get phenomenal MPG. I drove from Cincinnati to Knoxville and back on little more than 35 gallons of fuel. That's over 14 MPG!!! I know, I know, I don't believe it either. This...

    U-Haul vs. Ryder/etc

So far I still have truck tags. Hey Geofkaye, I need to get in touch with your DOT buddy and pick his brain. A Mississippi weigh station stopped me and then didn't know what to do with me. They let me go on, but it was a small annoyance. Doc Weaver

    U-Haul vs. Ryder/etc

dgorila1, I don't have any recent pics yet. I've been too busy using it. I will post some soon. Mine is a work truck with a living space, so my layout is very compact. Doc Weaver

    U-Haul vs. Ryder/etc

The following answers are from my experience in building a 24 foot freightliner. there are many more overall experienced cats in this forum. 1)vehicles rented by U-haul are usually wasted by the time of sell-off. the space under the box can be extremely useful. besides the obvious generator...

Suggestions wanted on "How much to pay for a used truck conversion."

Geofkaye is absolutely right. When I started building my own (earlier this year), I started getting calls from manufacturers trying to sell to me directly. I bought windows, doors, wall treatments, and a generator dirt cheap. They are hungry alright! Play the game right and it'll pay off. Doc...

Rear Axle placement questions. What determines their location?

Supposedly the longer the wheel base, the smoother the ride. The only possible evidence I have for this is when I was driving private coaches (buses), we had an axle break on the bogey wheels (which were behind the drive wheels). We limped to a truck stop to have the bogeys removed and chain...

fl-70 conversion to a toter in california

i just got done with my first trip in my FL60 w/ cummins ISB since conversion started (2700 miles in 6 days). NO PROBLEM! I climbed some very steep highways in high gear. So far I am very pleased with my purchase. Doc Weaver

So now could be a good time to build a rig ?

from what I understand, since it will be used for business travel, I must register it as a truck. We used to register bus conversions as motor homes (with the band thing) no problem, but DOT seems to be a little more stringent on truck conversions. Doc Weaver

So now could be a good time to build a rig ?

even though geofkaye could be called my mentor, and his advice is probably more valuable than mine, I will put in my 2 cents. I bought a MDT 24' straight truck for $9000 and have spent (to date)about $5000 and six months of hard labor on conversion. I plan to be using it in about 2 weeks. I...

Every mans dream. V12 Merlin motor (P51 Mustang) in a 1955 Chevy drag car.

would that fit in a freightliner? Can you imagine the fuel cost for that beast. That car makes our trucks look economical. Doc Weaver

    Need MDT help for conversion

I had an Isuzu NPR before deciding to upgrade to the FL60. It was great for running around town, but failed in the OTR department. The only way to keep up with traffic was to draft behind other trucks. Could be the gearing, could be the body design, I don't know. It seems that maybe the rice...

    Need MDT help for conversion

Snowman, I am far from a professional, so take my advice with a grain of salt. that being said, I have a question. Why are you set on the 4300? I had my mind set on an International too, until I test drove a 4300 over a weekend. To there benefit they have: solid and quiet cab, good looking...
