Why not buy a trailer camper and transplant it to a truck frame?

I haven't seen a toy hauler, but I have seen a class 7 with a travel trailer refitted to the frame. The thing I noticed was the rear wheel wells being modified to not look homemade. They did a good job, but I don't remember much else. At least I can tell you it can be done. Doc Weaver

building a complete machine shop in 53'

I am not an attorney, but I believe it is illegal to ride in a trailer, period. Even if the stock car movies do it. Doc Weaver

building a complete machine shop in 53'

Absolutely! Some of those NASCAR haulers have machine shop tools in them. It would be very dependent on pre-planning and proper securing of the shop tools and benches. You would also need a strong generator with clean power. As far as working while moving, Dangerous as well as illegal. On the...

You guys are still buying from retailers. Call the manufacturers. They are starving and will break the rules to make the sale. I bought a shower stall for $75, a water pump for $25, windows for $40 each, and generator doors for $50 each. I used the internet to shop and once I found the part...

Thought I would chime in, I couldn't find a vehicle that fit my needs and my budget. This is why I converted my own. I said that to say this. If you can find a manufactured model that fits your needs and wallet, I would definitely consider it. BUT remember that the RV parts are just as cheap...

What type of truck to buy?

my experience with Internationals was complicated. All the newer 4700s were built strong, tight, and very quiet (in the cab). On the other hand I drove spring and air ride 4700s and neither one rode acceptably. The air ride really surprised me. My friend test drove it with me and he told...

Finally got a chance to work in the generator. It was the fuel pressure regulator. Apparently it was stopped up or something like that. At least a cheap fix. Doc Weaver

    Maintenance Talk lacking

The whole air vs spring interests me as well. After driving many MDTs, the best ride was an all spring Freightliner. That didn't make sense to me. I was told by truck mechanics that the long springs made the difference. That part made sense. What I still don't understand is the International...

    Maintenance Talk lacking

when we used to travel in motor coaches (buses) we used to get asked why we didn't use RVs. Here is the answer that works for this question too. RVs are meant to camp and Buses are meant to travel. Trucks use heavy duty drive trains, large wheels and tires that are positioned at the outer edges...

    Stealth Camper Build Thread

question: What's wrong with tying all the batteries together? I went as simple as I could. The only 12v units in my truck are the lights and water system pump. Everything else is 120v and run to a breaker box. So when I'm "camping", I either run the generator or plug into shore power. As far...

Does a diesel pusher get 11 mpg?

Well...............in the 80's I had an Eagle that got 12mpg and my Freightliner gets as much as 11.9mpg. Even though that is a true statement, an explanation would be proper. The Silver Eagle was a fluke. I had a buddy that had a brand new Eagle with a V892, and a 4 cylinder diesel generator...

Once again, Bad luck in Texas

Made it. Once I got to West Memphis, the outside temperature cooled off enough for the truck air to keep the cab and living space comfortable (but not cold). The other good thing was an empty truck runs fast. I gave it the old Geofkaye all the way home. GK, I'll call you. blizz. good point...

Heading out of Texas in the morning. The living quarters AC doesn't work, but the Truck air does. We are going to get out of here before it gets too hot. This is going to be it for a while anyway. I gotta go be husband, dad, and new dad for a while. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. we...

Once again, Bad luck in Texas

don't have to stretch the truth, I was born in southern KY. Lived in Dallas, Atlanta, and Ocala. When the AC is working, it will frost you in 15 minutes. The AC guy didn't have the right stuff. I guess small towns don't have to comply with Puron 410A. I'm plugged up here at the job site, so...

Once again, Bad luck in Texas

UPDATE: the AC man said he doesn't work on RVs, but he would look at it. The generator manufacture said that he thinks an obstruction is lodging and dislodging in the fuel system somewhere. He suggested cleaning the float bowl in the carburetor, and if that doesn't work, reconnect the original...

Once again, Bad luck in Texas

YIKES!! It acts like its running out of gas. the motor starts to slow, then finally dies. I'm going to call the manufacture on Monday, see what they say. The man who brought me down here to this job has a neighbor that does AC. I hope he will help me. does anyone know why they wont work on...

Once again, Bad luck in Texas

I don't know why Texas has something against me, but here we go again. If you have suggestions......I'm listening. The temperature in Palestine Texas is 100+, and the air conditioner is low on refrigerant. It's cool, but not cold. Once the sun goes down, it catches up. I can't get anyone to...

Hello from Ran D. St. Clair

welcome Ran, I have a question for you. Are you putting Truck or RV tags on your vehicle? REASON = You mentioned wanting to look like a delivery truck, well delivery trucks have DOT regs that are a pain, including weigh stations. Doc Weaver

    Power Inverters

Good answers. (To avoid the encyclopedia answer)Basically, high tech gear wants "clean" power. You can use a good power conditioner and get the same end result. If you don't have to have pure power for everything.....why pay for it. One man's opinion Doc Weaver

    Wheelbase

Not really toys. Most of the time I'm carrying sound systems, video gear, and related tools. Other times I'm carrying my convention booth. I started another company, so we will see what I carry next. Most of the time I'm just using it for a place to stay while I'm working in another town. In...
