    Interior wall skin

I put sheet plastic on most of the walls because I wanted easy clean up. although I did pad the front wall for ethstetics. I stapled quilt batting on the wall then put the material up and tacked it up with decorative tacks from Hobby Lobby.

    generator woes

I talked to a retailer today that sell the Chinese made units and he said that they were only meant to be worth about 3000 hours. That explains a lot.

    generator woes

Micheal, the current generator is a cheap chinese unit. I guess you get what you pay for. :-) I got a buddy that has rebuilt everything from mini bikes to big Detroit diesels, but he is on the road and won't be around till after I need to be gone. The biggest problem with mine is I still don't...

    generator woes

I found an Onan Emerald for $475.00 at the local RV shop that I buy some parts from. I don't know how many hours are on it. Any ideas on how to evaluate it or if anyone has experience with this model.

    generator woes

My generator is taking a dive. One leg is giving 160v to ground while the other leg is giving 80v. The strange thing is both are 115v to neutral. Unless someone has a fantastic easy fix that my electricians can't figure out, I need extra eyes to look for a generator for my truck. Gasoline, or...

    Heavy Duty Trailer Hitches

Have you tried calling tour bus companies like Hemphill Coach? They might be able to help you find out the information. Apparently non of us know :-)

    Basement Doors?

I built the box off the truck and then attached it to the frame. I built the box by getting a sheet of steel cut to the size I needed. I then built a frame out of aluminum square tubing. I used JB weld to put the frame on the steel so that I wouldn't have issues with steel against aluminum. Then...

    Wall Slide

out of shear finances, i went with a gasoline generator. they have serious drawbacks: fumes must be run far away from any living area, air cooled only, two fuels, no remote, and i swear gas is louder than diesel. The drawback to diesel is 5 times the cost. My advice is to go diesel if you can...

Fed Ex Custom Critical truck as conversion candidate

I would have loved to start with a Custom Critical. The only ones I found were WAAAYYY too much money.

Cost to build a custom trailer?

the home depot software seems to be a good idea. I used freeware like that to estimate building a recording studio in my home. It was't perfect, but it gave me an idea of cost. When I built the truck, I used pencil and paper, and most importantly..my wife...she has two math degrees :-D

UHaul vs. Penske trucks for build

I've said it before and I'll repeat. The RV parts industry is DEAD! Call the manufacturers and buy direct. Don't be shy, they're hurting and will sell to anyone. The windows, doors, shower, water pump, seals, generator, walls, etc. can all be bought for a fraction. My truck may not be the glamor...

    Door seal

If you have ever gone to the truck dealer to get replacement door seals (weather strip) then you have received the same sticker shop I did. I called www.uni-grip.com because I save a tone of money with their accordion seal when I connected the cab to the box. Well, they sent me free samples to...

UHaul vs. Penske trucks for build

Agreed. I converted a freightliner straight truck, and did a lot of investigation. The u-haul trucks are usually in very poor condition. They run them till near death by less than professional repair methods. The penkse trucks are well maintained, but will get rid of them at the first decent...

    guage repair

Two or three of my dash gauges have broken indicator needles, pointers or whatever they are called. I remembered seeing a hot rod tv show about repairing gauge faces. After getting price shock from Freightliner, I decided to try this idea. Well, it worked, so I thought I would pass it along. It...

    Fuel Economy Improvements

I got a roof fairing for my FL60 w/24' box. my fuel mileage improved about 0.9 mpg. in perfect conditions, I can get up to 13 mpg. A great side effect to the fairing was the stability at high speeds. I modified a junk yard fairing as to actually save money instead of spending the saving on the...
