800,000 miles ... problem or not?

"My wife started from what looks cool. " Your wife has a good eye. There is NOTHING cooler on the road than Peterbilt 379!

    Frame Welding

Those prices are more reasonable than I expected. I presume 30" high for the under box compartments. I live about 25 miles north of Milwaukee (WI) and Gortite is in New Berlin, WI ... suburb on the SW edge of Milwaukee. Thanks for the info.

The Vikings, Lions, and Packers all have the same records ... but the numbers aren't necessarily in the same order. I wonder if that will continue after next weekend.

    Frame Welding

Kenn ... I too had been thinking about roll-up doors. There is a fire station across from work and often there is a support truck (3/4 ton Chevy) with roll-up doors on the side. They look nice and are functional. But won't you lose some headroom in the compartment? I had a friend who owned...

Ladder - Telescoping Type - PICTURES

I don't understand what the skeptics are thinking about. Don't motorhomes, RVr's, and trailer pullers always go where they shouldn't and get the clearance light lenses knocked off? Without a ladder, its impossible to replace them.

    In the design stages

That is pretty much the same way I'd do it. if the weights are right and the measurement right, you should be right on. I've seen some of the bumper pull trucks with lots of truck behind the rear axles and now I'm realizing that is done to get weight off the front axle. Keep up the good work...

    In the design stages

This discussion of weight location, front axle capacity, rear axle weight, overhang, etc. reminds of getting my pilots license 40 years ago. We were taught to do weight and balance calculations be essentionally measuring the weight of something (fuel, oil, front seat passenger, rear seat...

    Frame Welding

Interesting idea Shorts ... I was thinking the same thing! I was at Brainerd International Raceway this weekend with a friend running in the SCCA Trans-Am series. Simultaneously BIR had the season ending Muscle Car Shoot-Out running on the dragstrip. I saw a food vendor truck (looked like an...

    Frame Welding

You do nice work. Had you thought about building the trailer hitch so it can slide up and down? Raising and lowering the trailer tongue. I presume with the spec racer you have don't have much ground clearance, hence its helpful to raise the front of the trailer for loading and unloading. I...

Highway OPie and his 379 Pete

So you'll have a 23 foot "living area"? Sounds interesting. There is not better looking vehicle on the road that 379 Peterbilt! Will you have twin chrome air cleaners and stacks? Keep us posted.

Cab and Sleeper on Air Ride

So ... I presume that leaving the cab and sleeper on bags and putting the box on bags provides a pretty good ride. How much better ride? Material? Thanks!

Cab and Sleeper on Air Ride

I was on the Interstate last night next to a Peterbilt 379 with a large sleeper pulling a car hauler. I noticed that the cab and sleeper appeared to be solidly tied together and they floated/bounced above the truck frame; presumably on air bags. The movement seemed significant. With that much...

    starting to build motorhome

That isn't a bad idea. But I don't think they do that in a house. Rather than steel, which is heavy and NOT the best insulator, put some of that silver stuff they put in race cars to keep the driver from cooking. Flexible and light weight. Check Pegasus Racing Equipment or Behlings Racing...

    Building T/C for Fuel Ecomomy

Don't I see these Ford 450s and 550s as ambulances? They look newer than 2001 to 2003, but if they belong to a fire department they are well taken care of and are probably that old. Very nice looking rig. Thanks for sharing.

What do you think of this Peterbilt?

Peterbilt Thanks for the comments. One of the things the owner told me that I neglected to put in my original post is that the truck has 8 lug wheels vs 10 lug that many/most trucks have. Anyone know the difference? What is on most semi-tractors? Any advantage one over the other? Is an 8...
