Researching the purchase of a Toter

Basically, for the 40-50K we will be hauling, I was only concerned with keeping the rear axle under 20K, and the rest of the axles under rated capacity.

Researching the purchase of a Toter

I may be wrong. I thought federal weight limits were 20K, but now I see where it states "if less than 40" from another axle"

Researching the purchase of a Toter

Actually I meant everything pertaining to the rear axle weight I was talking about. Sorry, I get in a hurry while working and don't explain things properly.

Federal Bridge Law. Probably should Google to understand fully.

Researching the purchase of a Toter

Well, goosenecks typically are designed for 20% on the ball. So, at 25K#, you would have 5K# on the ball(on paper) My rig was 15K# with an empty trailer and no water, food, half fuel. I would think you will be over. My truck is rated for 22+K#'s though, but federal laws say 20K#. Probably...

Researching the purchase of a Toter

Whoa, heavier than me...lol. As long as you don't look commercial you shouldn't have any problems, but I'm guessing you will have a tough time keeping a single axle under 20K with that kinda weight.

Researching the purchase of a Toter

Something I did not think was a big deal until after I bought mine, class 8 truck. I will be near front and rear capacity fully loaded. My truck has a gvwr of 36XXX. I looked at some toters that had gvwr in the 29XXX and 33XXX range. Sounds like you may not be hauling a lot of weight, so it...

Researching the purchase of a Toter

Yeah, that's why I figured I could move some weight back behind the rear axle by moving the generator (800#s), aux water tank(500#s full), and possibly the batteries. My math tells me full of fuel, water, etc, I should be right around 14K or slightly less. I put 295 tires on the front rated at...

Researching the purchase of a Toter

I'm setting my racing operation up to go commercial in case I do that someday. I want to roll through scales with no issue. I'm in the process of moving the generator and aux water tank behind the rear axle.

Researching the purchase of a Toter

You'll find a lot if you search it on here. My motorhome was nearly 2K# overweight on the front with an empty trailer, winterized, and half fuel. Scales said 15500# and it had 6100# tires on the front......wow.

Researching the purchase of a Toter

Yes, but of equal importance is what your tires are rated for. My front axle is rated for 13880#(if I remember correctly)

Researching the purchase of a Toter

My GN toter has a 15' box, class 8, and it was 31.5' from the front bumper to the hitch ball. I have since moved the ball back an additional 22.5". Make sure you check front axle/tire capacity before purchasing. I think I have mine figured out after moving a bunch of stuff, but GN toters can...

Extended the rear of my gooseneck toter

I drag race. Mostly just on holidays currently. I also have a little chassis business that keeps me extremely busy in addition to my day job......lol.

Extended the rear of my gooseneck toter

New setup on top, old on the bottom. I did not move anything yet, but it looks pretty good. Just for the record, I built the trailer to.......and it's not done yet either.....lol.

Update on my GN toter overweight front axle.

I weighed it with an empty 38' GN (the one in the pic before I tore it down to rails and built the stacker) and the front was 15500, rear was 15000, and trailer was 5K. Today, with the trailer partially loaded, it was 14700 front, 16500 rear, and 10K trailer.

Update on my GN toter overweight front axle.

Over the last 5 months I've been fortunate to make solid progress on my trailer I'm building. Today I put a car, golfcart, and tools inside and headed to the scales. I moved the ball back 22.5" to try and get more weight off the front which was approx. 2K over weight. I also put new front...

Single rear axle vs. tandem axle towing

My 15' gooseneck toter has a single axle. The rear weighed 15000# with an empty, standard height, 38' enclosed trailer. I since nearly completed(well....over halfway) my stacker trailer build and am excited to get this stuff on the scales again. The big problem with GN toters is the front...

    Steer axle weight

Yes, after thinking about it for a couple months I decided I will shift weight around and do what is needed to get all my axles to rated capacities......at least with the trailer hooked up. I thought about swapping axles and such, but my big concern is if I start getting hassled into getting a...

    Pre made basement doors

Just an update to help people out. I got my doors today from NRC, but they really came from a company called Challenger Door from Elkhart. I'm guessing most conversion companies doors are proprietary, but searching on the web, Challenger Door does have a large selection of available doors.

    Steer axle weight

Just thought I'd give an update to what I dcecided to do. I went ahead and ordered 295/80R22.5's that are 7830# rated. I will move my gooseneck ball back 2'. If that still does not get my axle weight within the 13880# the trucki s rated for, then I will move the generator and batteries behind...

    Steer axle weight

Just throwing this out here. I was talking to NRC today about purchasing some basement doors and brought up the front axle weight issue. I was told they had a GN toter in not to long ago that was very heavy on the front, over 19K. Moving the ball back 6" took 700#'s off the front.

    Pre made basement doors

I got a hold of NRC and found that they can get me the doors I need. In fact, I was told they can make them to any size. I would post a pic, but can't seem to figure out how....lol.
