    Conversion brand

It is funny, given so few choices in used rigs, I did not attempt to weigh the differences between the two. I figured that all of the builders had such good reputations that either material had its merits. That aluminum sheathing has to be tough, but I guess if you damage it you have to...

    Conversion brand

I'm a freightliner fan, but I don't blame you for picking the Volvo over the Cascadia. I test "rode" in an almost new Cascadia and it was the noisiest rig I had encountered. I agree that you should speak to both builders at length and tour their facilities, if practical. If I was going to...

    I get a "DO OVER! "

That is a great idea! Both of our travel trailers located those switches near the door, so you could reach them from the first step. I'd love to move the ones in my renegade to that spot. You do nice work.

Bone Stock vs Upgrades vs Factory Upgrades

Wow, I didn't even consider another builder! I went to their website and they actually seek out this sort of business. I will certainly keep them in mind for the next series of upgrades. Thanks for the tip.

Bone Stock vs Upgrades vs Factory Upgrades

I confess that I had decided not to do the work. I wanted it done by Renegade. However, after a month of back and forth, I've given up on Renegade for now. The folks were nice enough, but getting them to quote anything was like pulling teeth. In short, I got the distinct impression that they...

New to the truck conversion world.

Hello and welcome to the site! Sounds like an exciting project you have planned. Hopefully, someone knowledgeable will be along soon to discuss your questions. Best of luck with your conversion!

    Rear Bumpers?

Please post a photo when you build one.

    Rear Bumpers?

I may find the same thing to be true, once I have more opportunity to use my TC.

    Rear Bumpers?

I agree that the entire hitch/end of frame assembly is quite robust. However, I was just thinking it would be nice to have that sort of protection all the way out to the corners. Perhaps an aftermarket "Texas style" rectangular bumper that would connect via the hitch rails would work. The...

    Rear Bumpers?

I was reading a custom build thread where the gentleman had spec'd out a nice rear bumper for his TC. That rekindled an old question of mine. Why aren't the factory TCs equipped with rear bumpers? It seems that one as imposing as the front would be in order to dress up/protect the back end.

    toad brakes?!

    Yep! A pleasantly unique bunch.

    toad brakes?!

I figured adding the TC to the launching/loading equation would add another layer of complexity. Thanks for the insights.

    toad brakes?!

Ok, that is what I figured. So my concerns are not unwarranted. Do you have someone with a light truck standing by to launch for you, or do you use a lift to put the boat in the water?
  14. PE

    toad brakes?!

Gonna derail my own thread here and really show my noob-ness: How the heck do you navigate secondary roads with a boat hitched up like that?! Can you really turn right from a two way two lane to a two way two lane? I had grand plans to tow my boat with my TC until I went on a test ride with a...

    toad brakes?!

If maneuvering and campground space weren't an issue, I'd have a 26' stacker with my truck snug inside, the boat on the lift, and the nose area crammed with stuff I don't need;)

    toad brakes?!

^this My utility trailer is only rated for 10k lbs. The trailer weighs 2500lbs, so I can't haul my trucks until I upgrade to a 12 or 14k trailer. Still, I can only take the trailer to certain sites, where I know there will be room.

    New here.

The sites in both public parks and private camp grounds always seem to be pretty true to size, maybe even a bit bigger. In my very limited TC experience, the turning radius (as 38 chevy stated) can cause some issues getting into those sites, especially when pulling a trailer.

    toad brakes?!

I think there is some travel to work with. Bear in mind, I don't have one yet. I'm just doing the diligence.

    toad brakes?!

They offer a breakaway for that installation that pulls and holds the brake cable with a separate cable.

    toad brakes?!

Just learned that although my F350 will tow four down with no driveline disconnect, it has a towing speed restriction of 55mph!

    toad brakes?!

I'm hoping that the cable could be adjusted to tolerate a certain amount of travel before activating the toad brakes. I guess you would sacrifice some low speed braking, but it could mitigate the down hill issue somewhat, and the brakes would still be there when you really needed them.

    toad brakes?!

The issue of not being able to back up and fix a turn has been a concern of mine. I confess that I have already shorted two turns that required a little back up adjustment. All that aside, what I am really concerned about is all the extra equipment that must be installed in the toad for some...

I like the looks of that. Thanks

    toad brakes?!

Ok, now I am circling the idea of a toad. However, I confess that I am mystified by the braking options. All the RVers are quite pleased with SMI Air force 1 brakes, but I don't understand how it works on the coach side. I am certain that I am really missing something here, but why isn't...
