That is an option for some, but I plan on towing a fiver. I know there are some on here that know the numbers!

    Truck Length Question

I don't have a truck yet, but I want to get it close to right the first time. How long of a frame do you need between the cab and hitch to put a Smart Car on the back? Also, besides a Smart Car, what other vehicles fit there? Wife says it must have four wheels if that helps. Tom

any you guys with new knees?.....

The best thing I can say (after wife had both replaced) is to keep up on the rehab. My wife didn't exactly follow the regiment and has had a harder time to get better. She has since lost a lot of weight so that helps a lot. I worked with a guy (he was a pipefitter/welder) that had bot replaced...

Overall length laws: 45 feet, 52 feet and 56 feet? What’s the truth?

Way back when I was driving big trucks (been about 30 years ago) I was always told to pull over before the scale and walk in and get any permits needed. Once you touch the scale you are required to have the permits. I don't know if it is still that way, but maybe......

You are correct, Oh Mighty One!! I misinterpreted the wording. I was thinking it said you must include #1. That makes it even easier. For the APU I have two generators in my garage. Now to find a truck that fits my budget.....:(

    Smaller Toterhome?

Don't feel bad..... My wife doesn't even like driving our (my) 3/4 ton extended cab long box pick up. If I get anything bigger (yep, planning on it!) I will be the sole driver.

What I am looking at for appliances are more to get it titled as a motorhome than anything else. I already have a fiver for a camper. I do have one question about the cooking facility. I am guessing that a microwave won't fit the statute since it states "a cooking facility with liquid propane...

Overall length laws: 45 feet, 52 feet and 56 feet? What’s the truth?

Sometimes they are kinda observant... Many years ago when I first started driving for a living I was at a scale in N Dak. It was a small platform scale that only weighed one axle group at a time. I put the steering on and got the signal to put the drives on. The got on and I got the signal for...

Something else I have been thinking about was to buy an old slide in camper just for the appliances. I have found them for $300 to $500 and it wold give me all the materials for hook ups and appliances I would need for my conversion project. Any one see a problem with my thought process? BE...

Overall length laws: 45 feet, 52 feet and 56 feet? What’s the truth?

Ah, good old "fat finger syndrome"....... I am good at that. 65' is listed right under the 45' statement so either I made a typo or I miss read what I read....:p

    Smaller Toterhome?

You are in the same boat as me. My wife doesn't even like to drive my pick up, let alone anything bigger... But something else to consider is like my situation, I am 59 years old so I would be looking at replacing my pick up probably two more times in my lifetime, but the HDT would in all...

Overall length laws: 45 feet, 52 feet and 56 feet? What’s the truth?

A lot of times you can get away with being over length, over weight, or over width as long as you are not doing it blatantly or drawing attention to yourself. In other words drive normal and most LEOs won't even give you a second look. A lot of people driving RVs don't really know if they are...

    Smaller Toterhome?

Something else to look at is what it would cost you to replace an F450 and the longevity vs an HDT. Just remember an HDT with 700,000 miles is still designed to run another 300,000 miles (give or take) without rebuilding the drivetrain. Miles are not as much of a concern with the bigger trucks...

Maine is the only state I haven't been in. I was three miles from it once. That load started out in Auburn, Wa and ended in Portsmouth, NH. I used to pull a lot of oversize loads and used to know just about all the laws in the country concerning them as they pertained to me. Pulling a smaller...

I have been thinking about the HDTs for a while. Just to give you some back ground on me I have held a Class A or the equivalent of for the last 48 years (damn, that makes me feel old!!) and have been in 47 states and four provinces of Canada in a big truck. I have been out of them for 26 years...

Thanks for the welcome, Bob! I appreciate it. I don't have a truck yet.... working on it, but it may be a while due to my limited budget.... I have an eighteen year old Dodge 2500 with the Cummins, but looking at replacement an HDT is way more cost effective to me. I am gathering all the...

Overall length laws: 45 feet, 52 feet and 56 feet? What’s the truth?

According to THIS SITE the legal length for an RV is 65' in Cali. Take it with a grain of salt since these sites are not always 100% accurate.....
