Hauling 2016 4runner IN my conversion

There's been several around here that have built their own. Some said they would never do it again and it cost way more than buying somebody else's finished project. I have absolutely no skills to make anything so that might color my viewpoint.

Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway

Sorry I can't help on those roads. Never been down that way. The Heavy Haulers campground guide might have advice on campgrounds down there though: HHRV Campgrounds - Locator Map

Hauling 2016 4runner IN my conversion

Sounds great, at first. But then you have to look to all the people that have built their trucks before you and have spent more money than if they would have just bought something as close to what they wanted and do a bit of personalization. I think you'd be much better off buying a Truck...

    CB radio

Good advice porky69. I used to be really into cb'ing. I have a Cobra radio in my coach. Still running the single mirror mount antenna that came on it. The problem we have is we can't put a good antenna on the roof, too tall. I keep thinking about putting a good pair on, one on each mirror. Just...

    Converting to residential fridge

Yep, so far so good with the replacement. Glad I bought a good name brand like Xantrex. With a long warranty too.

    Converting to residential fridge

A bit of an up-date. I think somewhere way back I might have said I first tried to power the fridge with a 600 watt inverter? And it didn't work very well. Kept overloading the inverter and shutting it down. But the inverter was supposed to allow 1000 watts of surge. So I thought it should work...

    Glendinning Cablemaster and hose master

I have my 50 amp service entrance cable coiled up in the bay. When I set up I take the whole cable out onto the ground. Then I open up the round plastic access door in the bottom of the bay. Then I start feeding the cable down through that whole until I get enough fed to reach the post. Then the...

Welcome to the Forum from me too. I'm very sorry for your loss. I think you will be fine living in it. Pull a nice car trailer with the front end used for storage of all your personal property.

MDT vs HDT conversion and insurance

The Escapee's forum has a lot of info for HDT haulers. They have a HDT section. There are also often converted HDT's for sale in the sale section. You can save tons of money buying one already built. Here's their forum: Escapees Discussion Forum

    Fuel MPG

Just got back from a 2800 mile trip. From Minnesota to Idaho and back. Lots of climbing/descending out there. I was pulling my enclosed trailer with a Honda Pilot in it. The Pilot is 4800 lbs. and my trailer empty is 3k lbs. Plus we threw a bunch of stuff in the trailer. It felt a lot heavier...

    Fuel MPG

I think Freightliner puts the rear end ratio on a sticker on the inside of the fuse box cover? At least I think that's where I found mine.

Members On the road, where are you now?

Thanks guys, we've been to that area for Corvette events so I've driven those roads. This time it will be for our friends and their kids to see the landscape and monuments. We're bringing their Honda Pilot in our enclosed trailer.

Members On the road, where are you now?

Heading out of St. Paul, MN, tomorrow. Going west on I-94 through Fargo, ND, then continuing west until we get to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Going to be staying at the Blackwell Island campground there. Check in Friday, Aug. 19. Staying until the following Tuesday or Wednesday. Then heading back to...

40k lb Bumper Hitch convert to Gooseneck

The one the guy at the HDT Rally had a electric motor in it that could back it up. I didn't look through those ones I linked to above so don't know if any of them has a motor.

40k lb Bumper Hitch convert to Gooseneck

There was a guy at the HDT rally a few years ago that used one of those dollys. He said it worked great. He had a bed on his truck for his Jeep.

    vin change for Ca. motorhome

I wonder if "vin change" might be screwing things up a bit? I doubt you would want to actually change the vin. That's like trying to change somebody's birthday. Have you read through the resource guide here?: HDT - Escapees Discussion Forum

    Tow bar breaks on interstate

Wow, glad the safety backup worked. Sorry I don't have any knowledge of tow bars. I pull an enclosed trailer. Good luck though.

Testing the electrical shore power, I made an adapter

I have tried it with my tongue on the G screw and a wet toe on the hot screw. Works great. I intend to store it in my storage bay. Right next to my multi meter with the probes. I've never worried about some kid taking the probes out and sticking them into a hot slot. I don't think I'm too...

    water tanks

Mine has 200 gallons fresh, 75 grey, 25 black. I bought it used so had no choice of sizes. I thought that black sounded kind of small. But, I've never come close to filling the black when the grey fills up. I am happy with these sizes. I think my wife and I can go about a week before needing to...

Testing the electrical shore power, I made an adapter

I saw that Sam, that's quite the tester he made. I always have a multi-meter in my rig. So it's nothing more to use it for this. I also always have a receptacle tester like he used. But I'm pretty sure I'm smart enough not to have a problem using the plug I made. Don't anybody else try this...

Testing the electrical shore power, I made an adapter

I intend to push the tester into the socket with the breaker turned off. Then check the screws for voltage just for the heck of it. Then turn the breaker on and test again. Then shut the breaker off and remove the test plug. Don't anybody ever think of making one of these. You will certainly die.
