    Freight liner Engine Brake

My son has a Freightliner FL120, 2003, with a Cummins N-14. He's an owner/operator hauling inter-modal containers. I just asked him about how his cruise/Jake play together. He said his Jake (forgot to ask but pretty sure it's a 2 stage Jake) works the same when the cruise power is turned on or...

    Freight liner Engine Brake

My Jake switch is not back lit. I don't think any of my switches are back lit? The Jake switch on mine is a three position rocker. Bottom pushed in is off. Middle position is light, and top pushed in is strongest.

    Freight liner Engine Brake

You're doing everything right. And you've noticed something that nobody told you about. I had the same experience. Nobody told me about it either. I don't remember what forum I finally found this info out on. Apparently it is a programming thing. They set it up so the engine brake doesn't apply...

    Glider Kit Wheelbase?

I'm at 36' overall. 26' living quarters, day cab truck. Mine is single axle, 295" wheelbase. I'm not sure how much I have extending behind my back wheels but I wouldn't want any more. I haven't scraped anything yet but I'm sure I've been very close. I leave my hitch in the lowest position when...

    Geoff in Australia here

Welcome to Truckconversion.net! That's a cool old Kenworth there. What about keeping the tandems on it and stretching the frame. Then put a larger than 6' living quarters on and pull your trailer? I'm thinking 6' doesn't give you much space.

Compilation of T/C websites: Manufacturers and Sales

I think that Gen. I autoshift will go on a pretty old truck. The Gen I and II still have the clutch pedal to get the rig rolling and stopped. Everything else is done by the computer. Then they went with other trans when they eliminated the clutch pedal.

I wouldn't consider a custom build using a manual trans. Even if you are fine driving it you're going to have problems letting others drive it. Like on a long drive with friends/family for instance. And you're going to have a hard time selling it. And, the auto shift transmissions are so nice to...

    NRC Truck Conversion

William, are you having a rig custom built from scratch? Doesn't seem to be the most frugal way to go? You can find lots of used rigs for pennies on the dollar. As for building, I too believe NRC is a great builder. Did you check into Hawk Engineering too? Similar construction types I think.

Good question. I've never seen one of their builds. I googled them and didn't come up with anything unusual.

    2007 Optima/Freightline Columbia/450 Mercedes

For us the Truck Conversion is the best. There are lots of rv'rs that pull their 5th wheel camper with an HDT. If I was to be a 5th wheel camper for sure I'd pull it with an HDT. We like all of the aspects of travelling in one rig. Mrs. can roam about and lay on the sofa while I'm driving. And...

Okay, so you're thinking about pulling a camper trailer with an HDT then? That's a different deal.

    I get a "DO OVER! "

Looks good, Randy. Keep the posts/pictures coming. I love watching other people build stuff since I'm not capable of building anything myself.

    2007 Optima/Freightline Columbia/450 Mercedes

Most of the truck conversions I've seen with two rear axles have both of those as drive axles. I think Showhauler is just finishing up a build on one where they have a tag axle behind the drive axle. But that's the only one I've seen that way. If you build yours from scratch you would have the...

    Hi From NM

Yay, another T/C member! Welcome to the forums. I like those Super C's, but the Truck Conversion you're going to really love more. Looks like some super cool cars/trucks you've got there too. Keep posting here. Keep us posted on your Showhauler when you get it.

Our build and thoughts on different truck

I've heard others talk about being able to get from the driver's seat to the living quarters too. Might be the requirement. But, does Washington require an inspection to get licensed? In MN I'm pretty sure you just have to sign a form saying you've got all the requirements met. And I'm certain...

    New Here

Aha, property divided amongst siblings. Yuck! Yuck! My wife's sister died and has created an "issue" regarding her lake home. Don't give up hope though. Just think how great it will be when you're cruising around the country enjoying that great truck of yours.

Our build and thoughts on different truck

Another thought I just had (they kind of come irregularly in my old age) is about that camper. If you can't find a suitable truck that the cab overhang will clear, what about putting it on backwards? Then build some nice storage bays to fill the area under it? Or put a Smart car or some...
