Testing the electrical shore power, I made an adapter

I know, stick the leads of the meter into the socket. Sure, that's what I usually do. But, on a 50 amp socket it's not always easy to get them in far enough to make a good connection. That's the problem I was trying to describe above. The idea with this device isn't to plug it in and leave it...

Testing the electrical shore power, I made an adapter

Last summer I was at a campground in Virginia. When I first plugged into the 50 amp shore power my Progressive Industries EMS shut down the power to my rig because it said there was no voltage on one of the legs. I tried unplugging and plugging a couple times. As well as exercising the breaker a...

    trailer hitch

I think you'd have to pay a pretty penny to ship one of these deals. You should be able to get a local welder to whip one up pretty cheap, like I did.

    AC transfer switch

I put in the Progressive with the remote display. I really like it. I installed mine under the bed next to the back side of the service panel (circuit breaker load center). I wired mine up there so it protects the voltage coming from the shore power and/or the generator. Most people tell you...

1/2" plate steel. He's a professional welder (retired) and whipped this thing up real quick. I bought the tube at Uhaul I think. Works great.

    trailer hitch

That one has the standard 2 5/16" ball welded on. So to pull something with a different size ball, or mount my bike rack in a standard 2" square hitch I had my neighbor make me this:

Or are you looking for something to install on the back of the truck frame? Most of the Truck Conversions have custom made plate steel hitches welded on the end of the framework, I think.

    summer heat

I sometimes close the bedroom door and curtain behind the cab and only run the dash air for MrsBob86ZZ4 and I. If there are others on board we leave the curtain open and see if the dash air provides enough cooling. Again, keeping the bedroom door closed. If people are uncomfortable we fire up...

    Converting to residential fridge

Sam, check post #85. There should be a picture there of the two inverters mounted in a cabinet next to the bed. My circuit breaker panel is also located at the foot of the bed. I removed the romex for the fridge. Ran that to a junction box. Then I wired in the auto switch that switches over the...

12.2 volts for my batteries then. Thanks!

    Converting to residential fridge

Interesting. I don't expect to ever let the batteries get down to the 10.5 volt level of auto inverter shutdown.

    Converting to residential fridge

Sam, I actually now have two inverters. The 2k one is wired up to only provide power to run my refrigerator. The 600 watt one is wired to power the two televisions, as well as the surround/dvd and satelite receiver. Those circuits also have the receptacle under the dinette on them. So I leave a...

    Converting to residential fridge

The inverter has a display that switches between input volts and output watts. At least I think they're output watts. At the end of that 35 hours the input voltage was showing 12.3. That doesn't sound too bad to me but I'm no expert in this stuff. I think the inverter shuts down when the input...

    Converting to residential fridge

I don't know hardly anything about solar. I would guess it shouldn't take a lot of watts to keep the batteries up. I'm really not wanting to drill holes in my roof so I don't think I'll ever put solar on. I did kind of think about maybe getting a portable solar panel that I could unfold and...

    Converting to residential fridge

Well, I needed milk. So I decided to go out and shut off the fridge and bring the food in. I had been camping overnight in it at a nearby campground. That's where I did this test. But came home this afternoon. I had it running on just those 4 batteries for 35 hours. I'm very happy with that.

    Converting to residential fridge

First time I was able to do some testing on it. I've had the fridge running solely on the 4 6volt batteries for 30 hours now. It's not been very hot here. But, I was camping so I used some 12 volt energy during this time. I never hook up to shore water. I always use my holding tank and 12 volt...

    Converting to residential fridge

38chevy, good thought. When I originally was planning it out I thought I would install the two batteries onto the frame and lift the whole thing up to the position and then bolt those plates across the top to hold it up there. Then when I started doing it I figured it would be too hard to get...

ac not working on the ref.

Looks like it's set to "auto" in that picture? I'd first pop the access panel off outside and plug a tester into that receptacle. And don't plug into the other half of it. Unplug the fridge and plug your tester in where you unplug the fridge. I've seen where they only have the half of the...

    Reskin outside of enclosed trailer

If you do peel off the siding consider framing for a bail-out door. The door next to the driver's door of the car you put in there. If you drive a car in/out you will certainly appreciate one. It's soo much easier to get in/out of the car when there is a large door right there that the car door...

I have one other thought. How do you know it's running on propane?

ac not working on the ref.

Norcold fridge? Mine was a Norcold. There was a "mode" pushbutton. That would scroll through the different power options. You sure it's set to a/c? Assuming that it's set to a/c. I would open up the access panel on the outside behind the fridge. Be careful with those plastic clips. You turn them...
