    What was I thinking?

I bought our local harbor freight (I didn't want to leave my nice ones out in the weather)out of vice grips twice. The lady said they're ordering system was based on sales. I think they are going to be overstocked shortly :)

New to the truck conversion world.

Building the necessary structure for an attic is going to be tough with an frp box. On a positive note. you can find many older u haul boxes that are 26 ft and already have an attic. Then you can sell yours.

    What was I thinking?

Update After finishing the left and right side paneling, I decided that roof should be the next project. My wife decided that a skylight this big was just going to leak. The new roof is rolled .060 aluminum. It is sold by the foot. This is a 35 ft roll. We used the forklift to lift it...

    Rear Bumpers?

As I spend a lot of time at the track, I see lots of T/C guys with cracked rear caps, due to turning too sharply. I am planning on the bumper being sacrificial in that it will hit the trailer tongue before the trailer hits the back of the truck. I have brought several customers rigs back to the...

    Custom Loft over sleeper

I'm in the process. How far apart do you want to take it. I have engineered several alternatives. But in the end I ripped my box completely apart and framed up something solid. You can see mine in my build thread.

    What was I thinking?

I'm currently planning on using a "Texas" front bumper on the rear. I'm planning on running the receiver tube for the hitch through the foot hold opening (since they are designed for the front) http://www.4statetrucks.com/bumpers/semi-truck-valley-chrome-18in-texas-bumper-peterbilt-378-379_400.asp

    What was I thinking?

I cut and spliced the top rail 9ft back from the front and spliced in a 12ft section to add the 36 inch loft. I also framed everything up with 1x2 inch 1/16th wall box tubing. Much stronger that the z studs Supreme used and still fairly light. All of the skin that has been removed is being...

    What was I thinking?

I needed to move the box forward 18 inches and add a sleeping loft for my daughter. I also needed to replace the fiberglass roof with aluminum. I bought an old travel trailer for the windows, doors, and the slide mechanism. and set up and framed the 12 ftx43 inch slide out.

    What was I thinking?

I figured it's about time to start showing progress. this is my first attempt at a build thread for any of my projects. So bear with me. It started life as a line haul truck for I believe Watkins. Was stretched and converted into a 28 ft box truck for a plant nursery. I bought it out in Arkansas...

    Converting to residential fridge

In theory your eggs are not in one basket. You have 12vlots charging your coach batteries with either the engine running or the Genset running. You can get a 1 circuit transfer switch pretty cheap. to run off of the inverter or shore power. My new coach is even getting a heat exchanger in the...

    Converting to residential fridge

In my case. I am building a 100% electric coach. I am not using propane for anything. I have run an 120v fridge in my old C class for years. I just left the original fridge door in place to vent outside and built the fridge into the cabinets. It is by far the best RV fridge I have ever had. I...

    A "crappy" problem

Well the problem resolved itself. I found a great deal on a 36 in hex shower. The resulting shuffle put the toilet right where I needed it. Now I need big enough grey tanks for the wife to enjoy the massive shower :)

    A "crappy" problem

So after a lot of figuring, I'm still having a problem with black tank placement. I would like to drop the toilet straight into the tank, but that would put it overtop of the diff and driveshaft. Not only is there not enough room for both, But in the event of a driveshaft failure it would spray...

    Basement Storage options

What size angle did you use? How is the plywood holding up in the weather? Thanks, Steve

    Basement Storage options

Ok so I have the slide framed and installed. the drivers side of the box reframed from the axles forward to support the slide loads. Now I'm down to storage compartments. Anybody build their own? What kind of materials did you use? How much weight do you carry? What did you do for doors? etc, etc, etc

    Title work

On the flip side, the ladies I dealt with at Motorist services (DMV) were fantastic to deal with. Even though they had never done this in 25 years of service, they were able to look at the law and look at the truck and add 2+2. They are a good example of public servants.

    Title work

After hours of research and over 8 hours being told it can't happen, I have an RV title for my vnl 42. What it finally took was a DMV affidavit forcing the title office to make the switch. Every previous trip to the title office resulted in another excuse. The supervisor at the title office...

    Cab to Box clearance

My main concern is pinching the accordion boot when the cab bounces up and down (driving through Arkansas)

    Cab to Box clearance

I have seen a few guys leave the air ride in place. I was hoping to hear from them.

    Cab to Box clearance

After much searching (ok probably not THAT much). I have yet to find a recommended cab to box spacing for an air ride cab. Since my truck has an 18 inch gap behind the cab where the exhaust sits. I need to run the exhaust down low and slide the box forward on the frame. I just don't want to go...

    Adding to my skillset

I can't wait to get started converting my box. I bought a 98 vnl42 with a 42 inch sleeper and a 28 ft box. 102w x96h. I was going to re-skin the roof first, but I couldn't pass the deal on the parts camper. (I was going to order 700.00 worth of just windows) any of the appliances are shot, as...

    Adding to my skillset

Well, the problem solved itself this morning. I found a Dutchman with a superslide and a large hole in the roof. I got the whole thing for 500 bucks. Lots of windows too :) Thanks for your help.
