I ordered the truck from Freightliner in 2007 and had a 22 ft van body installed on the 256" wheelbased frame. Used the rig to service various pieces of mobile equipment and depreciated it into my business. 2 years ago I retired, parked it in the yard and started to design the motorhome...
Just got my '07 Century equipped with a 33 ft conversion. Bought the truck new in 2007, Cat C15, Eaton Autoshift, 16000 front axle, Alcoa Durabrites and has 33,000 original miles. NRC did a fantastic job on the conversion.
Running my Freightliner cab and chassis back to Elkhart, towing a car trailer total weight 28500 lbs I averaged 9.6 mpg. That was generally at or 5 mph over the posted speed for 2200 miles. Truck has 475 hp Cat C15, Eaton Autoshift and tandem rear axle.
Where was this advise before I left-just kidding. I had the letter of conversion and picks of the finished product etc but to no avail. The trip is done and in the books. Next time it will becoming back as a motorhome so I will drive past the scales and smile.
The idea of "running the scale"...
Oh yeah-the "NOT FOR HIRE" signs were on both sides-didn't matter.
As far as towing a trailer with the car on it-I thought since we were going 2100 miles and taking 3 1/2 days to get there, it would be nice to travel together and less money than driving both vehicles.
BTW when I have the...
The truck (cab and chassis) is considered to be a commericial vehicle (which it is in its present state) The various state laws read that all commericial, 3 axle, over 26000 lb trucks must report to the scales. So I am driving a 2007 Freightliner 3 axle, pulling a flatdeck trailer with our car...
Got the truck to Indiana last week. Seems the DOT guys like me, as I didn't have permits to run the interstates-oppps. Got a couple of permits at the weigh scales, 2 over the phone and ran the rest at night. Seems that as long as the truck is commercial, 3 axles or over 26000 lbs you need...
Bushpilot-what model Freightliner do you have. I took my horn button out of the steering wheel the other day (electric horn not working) and the button is a self contained unit. The nut that retains the steering wheel to the steering shaft was visible under it. I have a '07 Century series.
Hot Rod-I just finished taking the box off my truck, if we had gotten together sooner, it would have happened. Guess I am going to have a garden shed painted to match my motorhome-lol.
Hey-I took my 22 ft work box off my Freightliner and am going to be driving a 256" wheelbase cab and chassis back east. What kind of a ride is this going to be? I could put a 4000 lb concrete block on the frame rails to keep the tires on the road, any ideas??
Size of the gen set 18"wide, 48" long and 26" high. Approximate weight 700 lbs. Engine-Kubota V1200 3 cyl diesel, Samford generator BCI164B1 SX460 11kw, 110/240 volt 1 phase 46 amp. Price $6400. There wasn't an hour meter on the unit when I bought it, so hours are unknown. I have owned it...
It's best day was only recent as they were only introduced last year or so but I know what you mean. Look at the class A's that are in the +500,000 mark, they aren't worth it either but people buy them.
Even though hear in the "far north" we can operate an air brake equipped rv with a passenger car license with an "air brake endorsement" (which is 16 hours of schooling) I have a CDL so my family and I are safe. The course taught me the proper way to pretrip and inspect the vehicle. This...
Saw this on E-Bay, why not just fix it themselves. These things supposedly retails for $560,000

Dragonslayer-as I said I have been to Elkhart twice now. The manufacturers are good accommodating us future customers but I would suggest making appointments, not just showing up. Also, the frame shops and leveling companies are a worthwhile sidetrip if you are supplying your own chassis and...
In light of the recent motorhome crash and various comments on qualifications of drivers, what is your current license rating?
Mine is Class 1 & 6-this allows all vehicles including tractor trailer and motorcycle.
It looks like in British Columbia, all you need to drive TC is a car license with...
