    School bus conversion

This project is sitting on a 1999 F53 Ford chassis with the V-10 engine. It came from a 35" Damon Intruder motor home.

    Bluebird made overloaded rv's? Shocking.

I think that this is common with manufactured RVs. I doubt that any of the RVs we see on the highway would scale within the GVW limits. This is where bus and truck conversions shine. We usually carry much LESS weight than the chassis was designed for. As a result we have much safer vehicles.

    toterhome build

Your box length will depend on the trailer you want to pull. The fifthwheel or gooseneck ball should be directly above or slightly ahead of thre rear axle. You have to leave clearance enough for the trailer to turn. A gooseneck equipment trailer with a narrow neck does not need as much...

    In the paint booth

Nice looking paint job Doc. That thing sure is shiny! Your comment about the store bought RVs (aka Sticks-N-Staples) driving poorly is interesting. I've never driven a big camper but I have driven Dad's coach conversions (MCI 8 and Provost) asa well as my FLD120 toter and they all drive...

    24' U-Haul into RV

The guys are correct about U-Haul maintenance but.... I've always thought that the low profile truck and large box were a very good combination for a toy-hauler type RV.

    Tractor to Toter

I think you just figured out how long "to big" is. At this length you may not be able to pull a long trailer. How are you going to turn a corner with this thing? Are you planning to put a different front axle for turning radius and weight? Actually this length may make your front end to...

    Installing the Box

I agree with you Shorts. If you want tankless it will need to be diesel or LP. FWIW I have a 6gal electric water heater (1300w I think) in my toter and I like it fine. It gets hot in about 15-20 minutes and that is good enough for me.

    Installing the Box

Hey Shorts, I think he is asking about an electric tankless water heater. I'm sure the electric tankless will work if you have anough juice to run it. Isn't the wattage requirement pretty high for these? Think about the places you will be traveling to. Will there be enough power avaialble?

    2012 ShowHauler - Floorplan

You might want to look into mini-split heat pumps for your climate control. They have low power needs and especially have lower amp requirements for starting up. Very quiet and a bit easier to install than other basement air. My Dad has these in his Prevost conversion and likes them a lot...

    Tractor to Toter

My truck was extended using "C" channel rails bent to fit inside of the existing frame rails with significant overlap on both ends. I see no reason that this is not a good way to extend the frame,

    Tractor to Toter

You are probably right about a tractor being less expensive than a long framed straight truck. There is no reason that a frame cannot be strecthed and welded but you need to know what you are doing. Truck frames are made of high tensile material that is sometimes heat treated. This stuff can...

    Help with Insurance

I ended up with Indiana Farm Bureau which does you no good in OK. If your current insurer can't get a clue try State Farm and try a couple of independant insurance companies. Good Luck!

    Generator install

Is your fuel tank AL or steel? My freightliner has aluminum saddle tanks. The wall thickness was enough that NRC simply drilled and tapped holes for suction and return lines into the top of the tank. If you have a steel tank which will be much thinner you can weld a fitting into the top, use...

What's with Class A only Resorts?

They reserve the right to do business with anyone they want to and so do you. Some folks only want to go into RV resort with fancy rigs and snooty neighbors and some folks don't care. Luckily there are parks for both kind of people.

    Turning Radius

I have a 1989 FLD120 which has been strectched and a 12' living quarters added. The new wheelbase is about 294" I'm pretty sure that no changes were made to the front end when the conversion was done. The wheels do not turn very sharp and I am having lots of trouble getting around corners...

How do I pick it up???

Jack the ambulance body up and drive out from under it like you would a truck camper. I did this when I rebuilt the flat bed on my 1 ton.

    Cab-over conversion?

I think that using a cabover is a great idea. You can increase the living space without increasing the wheelbase. It's hard enough to get around corners with these long truck as it is. The trick will be making the cab tilt while still having pass-thru access to the RV. It can be done you...

    Help with Insurance

geofkaye. How do you have your RV insured? Agreed value? Actual Cash Value? As we all know, there is no "blue book" on these things and I need to be sure that they will pay out if I have a loss.
