I think that you will find luan plywood in many units. You can treat it any way that you want. Apply wall paper, paint it, upholster it........ In factory RVs they often put on wall paper before installation then finish the joints with trim strips.
Pretty good comments so far. We could use a little more info on your intended use/configuration. So you want and rv? or toter style with the fifthwheel or gooseneck on the back. Will you be towing .... how much? I saw that both of these were twin-screw trucks. Do you need the extra axle for...
I'm thinking very seriously about installing a minisplit system in my toter. I have a 12' NRC conversion on a 1989 FLD Freightliner. There are some folks out there who already have minisplits on their rigs. Can you post some pictures of the outside unit and hwo its installed in your coach?
I have heard of folks building plywood tanks and lining them with fiberglass and it worked OK. Be sure to make the box strong because water is heavy. Containing that water takes a bit of strength when it starts to slosh around.
P.S. I'm not convinced that there would be a problem with aluminum.
Thanks for your comments Bob. You pretty much spelled out what I want to do. Keep the crossover pipe up high so gray water only flows into the black tank after the gray is full. I would not want them to mix all of the time. My Dad is converting a Prevost right now. He may make a run to the...
I had a chance to look today. I have (2) 24 gallon tanks. I'm not sure why they used such small holding tanks when there is room in the compartment for more capacity.
Sometimes I can't let the gray water out on the ground. The shower and sinks have traps to prevent odor from the tank. I would connect between the tank and the traps so stink should not be a problem. I'm also pretty sure that the holding tanks are vented through the roof. I could just open...
I found the same thing Don did when I did a little searching. $6500 sounds a lot better than $13,500! Used runners is also a good option. bradaka1 should also keep his eye open for used running trucks and wrecked trucks. Sometimes the entire truck can be bought for less than what the engine...
I can get a picture or two. I do not have any exterior steps they are built inside. I don't have to remember to fold up my steps but therr is also a big stair pit inside of my rig. Give & take.
I was reading about Kenn's build in the "Frame Welding" has reminded me of an issue with my coach. For some reason NRC used equal sized tanks for the black and gray water. Most people produce much more gray water then black. The RVs I have been around always had a larger gray water tank...
Hey Don please don't think that I am trying to argue with you. I am using our discussion as a way to learn something new. I never even thought about using oil to increase internal pressures but I see your point. I worked in a maintenance shop that either ran the tools dry or used WD-40 in...
Thanks Dave. You are correct about the inverter units and I would probably spend more to get one. I use my rig to travel to antique steam and farm equipment shows where power availability is a problem. The low amperage needs of the inverter type could mean the difference between having AC and...
Don, I'm a little confused. Do you recommend running the air tool dry? Running it dry will certainly make it wear out faster. All I suggest is a couple of drops periodically. More oil will only make a big mess anyway. I certainly agree about lubricating the theads like you say. In my...
Dodger mentioned 3/4 sch 40 pipe. This could work well. For standard pipe the I.D. is .824" and O.D. = 1.050". It would be easy to put the material in a lathe and turn it down to 15/16" but it will have a pretty thin wall thickness. You can also buy 15/16" tube with an I.D. of .772" that you...
A torque multiplier will be more likely to break studs than an impact. The jarring action from the impact will go a long way toward breaking the bolt loose without snapping them off. I restore antique farm equipment (very rusted/stuck). I have found that the rattling of an impact will loosen...
Someone mentioned that minisplit systems are expensive. I found a unit here that is pretty reasonable.

I doubt that I can get a rooftop unit for $400. My rooftop is getting...
My Freightliner toter was built on a class 8 chassis which was stretched. The P.O. removed the front driver and cut the frame. He had channels formed that would fit tightly inside of the original rails. He overlapped the channels on each end and bolted them together. There was no welding on...
I would look for a long chassis truck. I know that will probably be medium duty but that should work good. You should be able to use a cargo box which wil be plenty strong as well as save a lot of work & $. People confuse the amount the amount of horsepower wanted with the amount needed. You...
For what its worth: If you like busses Prevost comes with a hitch designed for heavy towing. My Dad has Prevost and tells me that they come from the factory with a 20,000 lb hitch. MCI and Eagle really are not designed at all for towing. A toter or HDT may work better for the race track...
The Jonny Cash special AKA Mater started out life as a 1936 Dodge 1-1/2ton. I can't find the pics I have with the hood still on it. Someone put a Diamond T cab on it. We think it was a government truck when new and didn't have a cab at all. Now it sits on the F53 chassis with a fabricated...
Sounds like you have an air brake truck that was never set up to pull a trailer. You will have to add the valves and plumbing needed for a trailer connection. Volvoman pretty much covered what you need. Look up air brake systems/schematics on Google. These things are not quite as complicated...
