    considering a truck conversion

The heavy duty chassis of a class 8 truck conversion or a bus conversion will suit your needs nicely and last for a long time.

    2007 Optima/Freightline Columbia/450 Mercedes

Looks like a very nice ride. I don't know to much about this chassis but you mentioned MPG. I can tell you that speed greatly effects mileage. Dad is a bus conversion guy. He was excited to get his Prevost with the 8V92 Detroit cranked up t0 450+ HP. He even called me on his first trip from...

    Photo's

I just attempted to post a picture on the transmission conversion thread and it would not work. Maybe a little problem at Truck Conversion & Tothttp://www.truckconversion.net/forums/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=42247erhome Community - Powered by vBulletin

    Transmission Conversion?

That deal that ASITOOL has may work pretty good for you. Don't forget that you can get a few buck$ for the existing transmission after you take it out. You will likely loose a little bit of fuel milage but the increased drivability on a hobby truck more than makes up for it. I have a FLD120...

    Transmission Conversion?

Good points about a electronic trans and a mechanical engine. The 5sp Allison is an excellent choice and I think that Dad had a 6sp Allison in his last bus that was mechanical (could have been computerized though). Some of the transmission makers probably make a transmission computer which...

    Privacy Curtains?

I'm assuming that you want a curtain for the windshield. We made ours from upholstery material. I have an FLD120 cab. I decided against some kind of track pretty early. I installed snap buttons like a jacket has and they work great. There are screws holding the trim in the cab above the...

    slide out

when you cut the hole for the slide out you will also be removing a lot of the structural strength of the wall. You will have to reinforce the opening to account for this. Maybe you can look at the rv that the slide is coming from for tips on how to strengthen the opening.

    Under Body Boxes

The others are probably right about building your own. Maybe build the box and purchase the door. Check some the RV surplus places for deals on doors.

    Frame Welding

How do the exhaust gasses from the water heater get out from under the truck? This makes me a little worried about carbon monoxide.

    Frame Welding

Nice job on the refer. I should follow up on a thread when I ask a question. Like hotrod I was going to suggest venting through the roof to get better air movement via the chimney effect. My refer is an under the counter model vented through the wall only. As you can guess, the upper and...

Have you made the vent holes for the refer in the outside skin yet?

    Antennas

I have the same style antenna as bushpilot. Not sure of the brand or model. What I like is that it requires nothing from me to work. I especially like that I don't have to remember to lower it before moving the coach. Many RVs include a booster in the antenna wiring and these do help the...

What does it cost to have a class 8 RV towed?

check with AAA. I think that they have a program which covers RVs. There is also an outfit named Coach-Net who seem to be popular with the bus conversion crowd.

    john deere chassis conversion

This might be a good candidate for a vintage truck cab. Or......If the rail spacing is typical of big trucks (34" I think) then a semi cab might fit well.

RV Chassis for 48 Dodge COE

Sounds like a really neat project. Check the width of the old Dodge cab against the width of the front wheels on the MH chassis. The chassis may be quite a bit wider than you cab.

    Novel idea!

Novel but not practical. Don't always assume that the firetruck will be well maintained. The users are firefighters not mechanics. The military chassis would ride so rough that it would shake an RV to pieces in short order.

    FLD 120 Ride Height

My Toter is on a 1989 FLD120 chassis. The truck started life as a twin screw road tractor. It was stretched out and converted to single axle. It has Freightliner 2 bag air ride. The truck only raises about 1.25" when the suspension is aired up. I suspect that it does not have enough...
