How about this for a hauler?

I tell ya what- If I saw that rig pulling a 5'er into any campground I'm at, I would wave, salute, whistle, cheer, and just plain stare, none of this being in any particular order...... You might say it WOULD have my vote for "Fer Real Kool Rig"! Yeah, I kinda like it.... Gary

    How about?

You're in the right place for your questions on rigs; Bravest Dog does it all the time and keeps us all thinking! ;-) Anyway, about these rigs: On the Freightliner-towed rig, if you like the trailer, go for it. It looks nice, but to be honest I don't know much about how to look at trailers...

    How about?

You got it, bro'! BTW, There are kits to put air ride on the front of those trucks without it, from Brock's Ad A Ride (or something like that) and others. Freightliner does offer it on some new trucks, not sure if others do. Air ride front and rear is THE way to go! Have a good one! Gary

    How about?

I didn't say impossible; the words were "NEARLY impossible". The two words that really apply here are- "WHY BOTHER?" There are tons of trucks around that far more easily lend themselves to conversion. Why create obstacles when you will have enough of them show up on their own? Medent is...

Watta DREADNAUGHT! Forget driving that monstrosity thru any major inner city; imagine doing a right turn from the right lane! YA CAN'T! No "FUN" element in this one.......

    How about?

How 'bout trashing or selling the bed, trailer, toolbox(s), headache rack, THEN building the rig of yer choice on the resulting bare chassis? I don't know WHY you would even mess w/ the trailer, being it is a pivoting front axle which means nearly impossible to back up (and you WILL have to...

    Too much caster ?

No problem Mase- I wasn't sure I made myself clear enough on that, but like you said, the steering will feel heavier, due to it "trying" to straighten out during any steering action. Maybe between all of us, we got it right! ;-) Gary

Carbon Fiber use in building truck conversion questions.

Mase- Always good to hear from you..... Good point on the vibration aspect of carbon fiber; I'm not at all sure it takes well at all to the kind of vibration over long term that a truck chassis would give it. It's different than a racecar situation where a part does not need to last more than a...

Carbon Fiber use in building truck conversion questions.

I'm no expert, but from what I know about carbon fiber, the cost to do very much with it on a conversion would be prohibitive, especially if you are using it to try to shave off very much weight. It would have to be used extensively in the structure to save any appreciable weight, and the...

    Too much caster ?

I'm not sure what you're getting at- regardless, too much caster will increase steering effort, but will also make it MORE self-correcting coming out of a turn.

    52', 05 Powerhouse, 02 Volvo 770 w/480k miles, on ebay.

NICE! Cutting the length of the coach section to about 1/2 its present length would make it right in my eyes, making it able to do a U-turn in less than a 1/4-mile radius....

    Weight retrictions

I remember Doug telling me it was a Forest River unit, originally intended for 5th wheel use, then turned around so you ended up with an elevated rear bed and a ton of storage underneath, along with a door on the wrong side of the coach. Is this good? You decide....

    AIR HORNS

Not true. An all-electric fridge is waaaay more efficient with electricity than any 2- or 3-way fridge, and will therefore run quite well and for a long time on battery power. And when that gets low, fire up the genset for a while during the day. The battery power will last the nite, plus. They...

    AIR HORNS

I would hope propane didn't require "any power"; it IS the power!!! BTW, when you plug in at a campground, you can run it ALL on the "juice", including the fridge and heater, when all electric. NO messing w/ pilot lites, etc. NO flameouts. NO gas leaks to try to detect. Oh, and NO tank other...

    AIR HORNS

Not YET; as I don't YET have a rig. When I do, however, it will NOT have propane anything, because for one thing, I can't see carrying a second fuel besides Diesel when a genset (Diesel of course) can supply safe power for all cooking, heating (including water) and lights without having to deal...
