    Roof Coating

Oakland Mike- The Durabak product mentioned above gave me an idea- Why not use a DIY bed-liner product (roll-on or brush-on) for your roof. Not only waterproof and durable, but somewhat skid- or slip-resistant as well. Maybe gonna hafta use it on my in-the-planning-stages RV roof. Too cool!

M2 - is it the truck for you?

Thank you Bill! This is good info for many who lurk around this site. I'm so glad this unit fills the bill(Bill?), as I was afraid that being used to more torque from the FLD, you'd be disappointed in the lesser amount of available torque from the MB engine. This now appears not to be the...

Questions re a Class 7 Renegade on a FL 70 Freightliner Chassis.

Underpowered? Depends on what you're used too, but a 300HP Cat will get you where you want to go, slowing only for the steepest hills. Overloaded? MAYBE, as the owner does not state the GVW. If it's 31-33,000# (which it likely is), no problem. That's pretty close to what you get when one axle is...

1999 Freightliner with stubby box conversion.

Hey, I'm single, and I think that rear coach section needs about another 10'. I DO like a little elbow room. Then it wouldn't look so funny either....

Larry, would you know the CA DMV requirements for an RV?

I agree with you. I was only relating the law as I know it (NO guarantees here!). I think that the ones who get caught at this are the guys with pickups and camper SHELLS registered as passenger cars carrying building supplies around. I doubt a motorhome w/ garage would get busted on this...

CA DMV RV requirements wanted. Anyone...?

Sounds to me ( NOT that I'm right!) that they're giving you a LOT of leeway in how you do the conversion. That said, they're also gonna look for those trying to weasel out of getting commercial tags for a unit "disguised" as an RV only as a deceptive ruse(it happens!). An open freight box with...

Larry, would you know the CA DMV requirements for an RV?

I don't know whether this will help or not, but when you are dealing in this weight class (light trucks), the only thing to worry about when dealing with a light truck with non-commercial plates (like a van conversion) is not to be caught carrying building materials on the way back from Home...

What I ended up with - anybody heard of Hansen Haulers?

Hey RJ-- I thought Morrison's was mainly a slideout specialist, but it might pay to check him out again (I don't care for slideouts). It never hurts to look! Thanks man! Gary PS- I wonder how many more of us "Valley Guys" are members of this Board?

What I ended up with - anybody heard of Hansen Haulers?

Jimm- Looks like you got yourself a real deal! Normally I'm a solid Diesel guy, but if you keep that 460EFI in good tune you might get some decent fuel mileage out of it. Make sure it has a good free-flowing exhaust on it, to help the MPG and to keep it cooler on the long grades. Have fun and...

Will International 1800 frame take Class 8 engines

Define "trouble". Yeah, the engine CAN put out that much power. For a while. Don't expect it to happen on a constant basis. There ain't no free lunch. If you want big power and need it for a big load, start with a big engine. This is no place for shortcuts.

Coach In The Making II - Cabinets Are In

    convertable

The usual reason you will see a tag axle on a CLass"A" rig is that the mfr. designed a coach that is too heavy for the intended chassis but wanted to keep the price of the rig down insted of using the proper chassis for the job. Fortunately this form of stupidity is on the wane as safety...

Hey Doug, Man, you weren't lyin' about appliance prices. Just doing a casual (make that REAL casual) stroll thru the local Home Depot told me that the smaller ( like suitable for RV use) refrigerators could be had for a FRACTION of the price of the typical RV AC-DC-gas unit. Plus it wouldn't...
