What are people thinking when they build conversions over 40 feet in length?

OK Cameron, sit down, close your eyes, and breeeaaathe DEEP! There, is that better now? I too live in this state (that of confusion....) about 200 miles N of you. I know of what you speak..... Gary

    Powerhouse Conversions

Hey Big T- The reason I still thought they were using outsourced boxes was that they were building many of their units with the door on the driver's side. They called it a convenience, but it was a sure indicator they were taking a 5th wheel box and turning it back-to-front, which also gave it...

    Powerhouse Conversions

I think the confusion lies in the fact that there are TWO "Powerhouses"- Powerhouse Coach in Idaho, who is still alive and well, and Powerhouse Conversions in North Dakota, the one that allegedly is up in smoke. Too bad, they did some nice work for what appeared to be fair prices, while the...

New Guy wanting to start a build

Yeah, my thinking on this is derived from my own plans for a truck conversion, which will use (so far...) an 18' box on a truck with an approx. 11' cab-to-axle dimension. When I drew it out it just looked SO right, so I figured that roughly the same proportions would work for you. Good luck on...

New Guy wanting to start a build

Just picturing it in my mind (always a hazardous move.....), a 22' box with 14' ahead of the axle should work well, at least weight-distribution-wise, and it will appear proportionate, with about 2/3 of it ahead of the axle. I guess it also depends on how the 8' of overhang might affect backing...

    International 4700 Interior upgrades?

If the truck has an air seat in it already, that tells me it should already have an air system. So why the 12V compressor? Just curious....

    Old school

The man shows up with what looks to me to be a fairly neat conversion on a nice old step van, and wonders whether or not he fits in. Well, in my humble opinion, OH YEAH!!!! Nice rig, Ob1quixote! And definitely, Welcome Aboard! Tell us more, if you would, like when the work was done, and...

    International 4700 Interior upgrades?

Right on! about having good seats, as this is ONE area not to go cheap on. Anyone w/ANY form of back problems (You don't now? You will.... someday......) would concur with the above. You owe it to yourself to have GOOD seats! Gary

New Guy wanting to start a build

Hey DirtyDave- You might check with those truck dealers that specialize in medium-duty trucks for used boxes. More specifically, try Specialty Truck Parts in San Jose ( www.specialtytruck.com ) or their partners in Stockton, Acme Truck Parts and Equipment ( www.acmeequip.com ). They usually...

Completed Coach Pictures!! Let us know what you think!

Hey Brad- NICE rig! I wanna do the same thing, only different! I too love the step solution you came up with. It looks like an easier solution than a step well and "lowered" door opening. One question- If I may ask, where did you get the steps themselves? I think I've seen them somewhere...

    Volvo VNL64T780 Price - New!

Hey Notstock, A lot of the trucks I see have about 3.73:1 gears in them, and they always have 9- or 10-speed trannies with overdrive in them. Without overdrive you would probably need 3.17 gears just to have the same final ratio as with 3.73's AND overdrive. Having said that, 3.58 gears and...

New but incomplete 2008 American Coach American Eagle on ebay.

Hey all..... Actually that 500HP rating is real.... that is the max rating in a motorhome-type ISM Cummins. I would not have believed it either but a friend of mine has a 500HP ISM Cummins in a Holiday Rambler motorhome. This guy must have had the computer played with to uprate it up to the...

Older conversion for sale. 1995 38' conversion on a 1987 Kenworth.

Hey all- I printed a picture of the rig in question, then took it up to Concept Transporters in Fresno (I live close by...). The business mgr. about gagged upon seeing the paint job. "We did THAT???" was her response. I assured her it was WAAAY back in 1995 or so. It appears they do things...

I can think of two things: Wife and Kids. It probably went like this- "Dad, why do we hafta ride in a box on a TRUCK when ALL our friends get to cruise in a really COOL motorhome?" I can understand why he feels the ride is so much smoother in the Vectra- when a suspension is loaded to...

    Drive-on/Piggyback + 5th Whl Hitch

Hi Dick- If you want a truck with the C-13 Cat, you definitely are looking at Class 8 trucks. Classes 6-7 use the smaller Cats like the C-7 or C-9. I would be looking at Class 8 regardless as there are far more of them in the used market, keeping the price lower. You get far more bang for...
