    New Volvo Pony Xpress

Hey Walli- He is using the word "sick" here in an American slang sense, in which it means "really cool"; kind of a reverse meaning thing going here. You'll get used to it after awhile.......

    VED-12; opinions?

If the VED-12 gets better mileage than the Detroit Series 60, then it has to be the mileage champ, as the Detroit usually beats the larger Cummins and Cat motors, and sometimes even the smaller ones. Good engine for a conversion- Power AND mileage!

    VED-12; opinions?

The VED-12 was not available in the older-style Volvos, if I recall correctly, and from what I hear from various sources, it is a very good and very economical engine. This is what "I" hear. Any other opinions out there? Gary

    Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel

One thing I've heard is that if you can find fuel that is as little as 5% biodiesel, lubricity goes up about 90% or so, maybe a bit less. I think that if biodiesel ramps up like I've heard it will, just putting in that 5% will help things a lot for those older diesel engines.

Burgundy interior on conversion. Your opinion wanted on color choice.

It's a nice interior, but I think the color choice makes it a bit dark inside. I think a bit of a lighter or cooler color would brighten things up a bit. Just my .02! Gary

    Looking for some advice

ANOTHER adventage of starting with a twin-screw is that if you're gonna remove one axle anyway, you have a choice of two wheelbases to choose from by picking which axle position to use, then put the rearmost axle there. Obviously if you use the rearmost position all you have to do is yank the...

    2007 ToolSet Coach/Garage on a 99 Volvo VN610

Nice rig Tony! If I needed a garage-type rig, I would do something like this. BUT, I don't think I'll do a garage. Do you have drawings of any of your motorhome floorplans in the 16'-20' range? I want something that's still quite maneuverable, and not necessarily needing a separate bedroom...

$379,000, 2007, 3 axle Chariot conversion on racing junk.

The bunk probably wouldn't have looked as "boxy" on a more traditional-looking cab like a Pete 379 or KW W900, rather than the more streamlined Columbia it's on. It's all really a matter of taste, I guess. I myself would rather not have the overhead bunk, as they are actually rather cramped in...

    Looking for some advice

Look at it this way; 2 axles have a weight capacity of approx. 20 tons, and one axle is 10 ton, with air ride, the bags will flex better under higher individual load than a lighter one per bag (you following this?). The single axle will actually ride better, as long as you don't need 20 ton of...

    Looking for some advice

I will comment on one thing- Get air ride. The difference in ride quality will have your chiropractor cussing you profusely for cutting him out of a lot of business. Remember. AIR RIDE.

Could a person make any money with this?

Depends entirely on the overall height of the fiver. Some are higher than others. This truck already has a bid for $16,500 or so and didn't get it. This is not a "real" Volvo. The cab is of White/GM origin, and is what Volvo got stuck with until they came out with the much-improved VN series...

Help me identify this conversion by the interior.

Hey Wink- Something's weird (BESIDES me!)- Your first link goes to a frame that says "photo not specified" inside it, but the second link, which appears identical, connects to a picture! So Bravestdog has a point, but don't ask me why it works the way it does!

    Are block heaters necessary ?????

The only reason ANYBODY needs a block heater is to prevent the block from cracking due to an overnight freeze. To aid in starting, the fuel must be heated, and a block heater won't do that enough to keep the engine running once it is started.

    2005 45' Custom conversion, 1992 Freightliner FLD120, 3 axle, 300k miles, $45k, ebay.

WAAAAAAY too long, sharp corners look cheap. Looks like it was slapped together out of sheets of FRP. Even the wheelwells are square. If this conversion is hi-dollar, it doesn't look it.

    steel tubing sizes

I think the main reason steel plate and rivets are not used is the corrosion issue. Plus, the industrial adhesive tape used to attach the aluminum sheeting is actually stronger than rivets, and the lighter aluminum means the tape doesn't have to hold as much weight as with steel.

    Air ride on cab

Sort of true: There is actually a boot on EACH car. They "meet" and contact each other with metal face plates which are the wear surfaces between them, and there is a lot of sliding between them. You really can't compare this to the boot between the cab and coach, which would only be one piece...
