    Haulmark Construction

As a part of my "obsession" (as my wife puts it) with having a shiny, eye catching, gleaming coach I would like to remove the oxidization from the "painted" surfaces. So my question is what is the construction of the Haulmarks "coach body"? Is it gel-coated fiberglass or is it painted...

Single rear axle vs. tandem axle towing

Using air pressure in the suspension to gauge axle load is actually fairly accurate once you have a reference point, for example on every Peterbilt I drove with Low Air-leaf suspension 72psi is 17,000kg (37,500lb)(which is Canadian tandem drive axle max weight), I used to haul...

    Snow Chains - Revisited?

I would suspect you will hardly even notice a change in either noise or fuel consumption. I have XDA Energy's on my coach and don't hear anything more than road noise, which you are going to get with any tire.

    Snow Chains - Revisited?

Most of it depends on the tires you have...most RV'ers run a rib tread tire which is not a TRACTION tire, which is a requirement for winter travel in most places. Would you go driving for 8hours down a road covered with mud with your coach? I don't think it would be a very enjoyable drive...

    Snow Chains - Revisited?

I have yet to see anyone dedicated enough to camping willing to chain up a motorcoach/motorhome. They just are not designed for travel in snow...especially if you have typical RV tread tires (basically rib treads with no lugs) which are completely useless on anything worse than wet pavement...

    Snow Chains - Revisited?

Coming from a trucking background (and having thrown chains on many occasions) I would NOT want to chain up a motorcoach. Not sure if your Renegade has bigger rear wheel openings, but my Haulmark does not have enough room between the outside edge of the outer tire and the wheel openings for...

    because 10 tires isn't enough???

It is exactly a lever with the drives as the pivot. Years ago I drove a truck with a pusher (tag in front of drives) and it would lift 2000lb or more off of the steering axle on a 244inch wheelbase and I pulled a 53ft triaxle trailer that had a tag mounted behind the tridem and it would...

    because 10 tires isn't enough???

Tag axle would transfer even more weight to what is a heavily loaded steering axle already(or at least mine is)....

    Replacing a 9 speed with a Auto ?

RS stands for "Refuse Special"...means it was probably originally in a garbage truck. Allison changes the HP/Torque ratings based on intended usage. If you look at page 56 in this catalog it shows the different designations http://www.chrysalis-tr.com/pdf/2011_Allison_Catalog_FINAL.pdf

    Replacing a 9 speed with a Auto ?

First off...what is a Cummings? Never heard of them....millions of CUMMINS though! Enough nitpicking.... Being as you have a mechanical injection engine (no ECM's to deal with) it should be fairly simple mechanics wise(no electrical connections or computers to program), pretty much remove old...

    Truck Scaffold?

Be careful if doing this for washing as it can get very slippery when wet! For windshield, sunvisor and nose cap cleaning/scrubbing I usually do the following... Open the hood, step up on the passenger side step then onto the tire, over to the frame and then up the side of the engine to stand...

    CB radio

Your factory mirror antennas were pretty much crap the day they built the truck, so after a decade you can imagine how good they are. As far as a radio to buy, get one that appeals to you...features and appearance...and then then buy a quality set of antennas and matching coax cable, have it...

    rear axle air dump

If you have some wheel chocks you can chock the front (steering) tires, start the coach, release the parking brake, activate the suspension and then retract the jacks. This should pretty much eliminate any binding.

    rear axle air dump

I don't always start the truck(mine takes weeks to bleed down to 100psi or less) but do flip the switch for the suspension before retracting the jacks, however the air suspension does not self level as fast as the jacks retract

    rear axle air dump

I always dump the air before starting the levelling process and still get lots of creaking, groaning and the occasional small bang(binding). The issue is that the levelling jacks move straight up and down where as the suspension moves in an arc (pivot point is in front of the axles, air bags...

    Power Mamanagement

30amp service gets to both circuits when you use your 30amp make to 50amp female pigtail adapter. That adapter ties both 50amp feed together.
  18. PO

    Power Mamanagement

I wouldn't be surprised if that is how it is wired, my Haulmark has both feeds going into one panel, but that panel is split in half (each 50A circuit has it's own set of breakers but they are all in one place). It would make more sense if the second 50A breaker in the main panel feeds the 30A...

    Power Mamanagement

50amp service(shore power) gives you 2x(120volt, 50 amp) circuits for a total of 100amps or 12000watts(120v x 100amps=12000w), your 12kw generator provides your power in the same way. If your a/c and microwave are both running at the same time you are probably drawing close to 30 amps right...

    trailer hitch

That would be me! Thanks again Don! Maybe one day I can remember to post some pictures of my custom version (made mine so it doesn't stick out quite so far) of the hitch....I do have an AutoCAD file for the steel I had Waterjet cut out of 1/2inch steel to make it though. As far as weight...

    Dually valve stem cap!!!

They can be plugged from the outside like a light vehicle tire, but most tire shops do not recommend this. The proper repair is to plug the hole and then patch it from the inside or use one of these: Uni-Seal Plug/Patch Combination Units I used to plug truck tires all of the time when I...

    Gen Set

Just because they broke doesn't mean they weren't strong enough...they could have been loose or other bolts may be loose elsewhere causing these 2 to be overloaded or the mounting holes are worn causing excess movement in the mount. Also if the others are grade 5, going to grade 8 does not...

    Total Noob learning experience

If you read what you wrote (in red) and think about it a little further (if you had to step on the brake with both feet to keep it stopped the transmission was not in neutral, it was in gear and the clutch was engaged, lugging the engine down)you will see that it was not the engine brake trying...
