Volcanic Tablelands

Ancient rock art and the White Mountains.
Very cool! I've got to visit this area...maybe this fall.
A friend of mine has a Galen Rowell print taken of similar rock art in this same area (or somewhere in the northern Owens Valley)...and I'd like to see this stuff first hand.

Mark, this is a great and surprising area to explore. This is most likely the area for the Rowell photo. There are three petrogylph sites along Fish Slough Road north of Fish Slough. This photo is from site three and obviously taken mid day. All I could think was late afternoon light with the rock wet from a clearing storm and snow on the Whites............Also up other roads along a volcanic bluff stop and look around. There are many pleasant surprises. Enjoy!
