In this case I just got lucky, opportunity-wise. I was driving along and happened to glance over and spotted them from the road so I pulled over, put my long zoom on the camera and got out, rested my elbows on the hood of the rig and shot a few.
Usually you have to be in some way-up cliff region or on a mountain ridge...but I have seen them near the road a couple of other times in eastern Oregon.
Now, every time I drive past this spot I always look for the herd, just in case I'll get lucky again.
